Pinnie Tag (15 mins)

Activity Name: Piny Tag

Activity Description: Arrange players in the area each player with a ball. Give 3 or 4 players pinnies to hold in their hands. When the coach says go all players dribble around and if you are holding a piny you try to throw it and hit another player with it. If you get hit you pick the piny up and chase someone else. Play for a set time and at the end of that time the players holding pinnies do a fun punishment (i.e. donkey kicks, star jumps, Australian push-ups, sing a song)

Coaching Points:

Make sure you point out coaching points of dribbling.

Try to introduce different turns in the game. Encourage players to use these turns to get away from the players with the pinnies.

Remind the players that they need to keep the ball under control.

Finishing Race

Activity Name: Finishing Race

Activity Description: Arrange players in two teams and give each player a number. Have both teams line up on the goal line next to the goal, with one team either side of the goal. Arrange a bunch of soccer balls on the opposite side of the area. The coach will shout aa number. If the coach shout '3' then the number 3 from each team will race out to the balls opposite. They will collect one ball each and dribble back towards goal unopposed. Both players will shoot on the same goal. The player who scores first gets 2 goals for their team. The player who scores second gets 1 goal for their team. If a player doesn't score, they get 0 goals for their team.

IMPORTANT:

- Give players a time limit to keep the activity moving.

- For larger groups call the next number when the other players are on their way back.

- Coach should stand behind the goal to help send balls back down to the other end. This will keep the game going longer without having to stop to collect balls.

Coaching Points:

- Be ready and react quickly.

- Race to nearest ball.

- Use a technique to turn the ball quickly and speed dribble to the goal.

- When to shoot? Shoot too soon and you may be too far out to test the GK. Shoot too late and the other player may have already scored and got the 2 goals.

Double Attack (15 mins)

Activity Name: Double Attack

Activity Description: Select one player to be GK and two players to be defenders (select additional GK's who rotate if it is a big group). Arrange the rest of the players on the opposite side of the area, each player with a ball. Number each player - 1,2,3,4.... The coach will shout two numbers at a time. If the coach shouts '1 & 5' then these two players quickly race out and try to score on the goal. The two defenders try to stop these players from scoring by chasing after them and kicking their ball out. When either the ball goes out, or the time is up, then the coach should call another two numbers and the game repeats. If you have multiple GK's they should rotate every few shots. Rotate the defenders every couple of minutes.

Coaching Points:

- Dribble at speed with ball under control.

- Use fakes and moves to try and beat the defenders.

- Correct striking technique when shooting on goal.

Outnumbered Finishing (15 mins)

Activity Name: Outnumbered Finishing

Activity Description: Select two players to play GK and arrange all of the other players into three groups. Coach should stand opposite the three groups with a pile of balls. Coach serves the ball in to the first player in group #1. This player goes against the first players from groups #2 and #3. Players from groups #2 and #3 ARE NOT A TEAM. They are simply trying to win the ball so that they can each try to score - it is every player for themselves. Once the ball goes out, or after a set amount of time players should rotate and the next group goes. After a few minutes change the GKs and have group 1 go to group 3, 3 to 2, and 2 to 1.

Coaching Points:

- Dribble at speed with ball under control.

- Use fakes and moves to try and beat the defenders.

- Correct striking technique when shooting on goal.

Multiple Balls (15 mins)

Activity Name: Multi Ball Game

Activity Description: Pick teams of 3-4 players and play a regular scrimmage. For larger groups have 3 teams and rotate teams. Also have a player in each goal. To start each team has a ball. The aim is for there to be two balls on the field all of the time. Players can either help their team mates with the ball they have or try to win the ball from the other team. Every time a ball goes out the coach should throw a new ball in to ensure there are two balls in play. BALL COLLECTION - Instruct GK's to return balls to coach if a goal is scored on them. Implement a 'Whack it then track it' rule - this means if a player whacks the ball wide they must go after the ball and return it to the coach before re-entering the game. Their team must play a player down until they return.
