Goal:
This drill is designed to get your attacking players to adapt to varying elements — different angles, distances, pace and pass quality — while still getting off quality shots.
Skill emphasis:
Variety of shots — focus on little/no backswing for a quick, close shot, and a more powerful skill from farther away
Quick transition from trap to shot — focus on shortening the time between when your attacker collects their pass and takes a shot
Shot placement — especially from the top of the circle focus on shooting the ball to the far post
Drill:
1. The player on the left (the "passer") feeds a ball across to the "shooter" who dribbles the ball to the cones, executes an elimination move, and shoots from the top of the circle (no rebounds)
2. The shooter then leads across the top of the circle to receive a through-pass from the passer and takes a shot (no rebounds)
3. The shooter leads toward the cage and collects a pass from a coach on the baseline and shoots (play rebound)
4. Alternate sides and have the passer become the shooter.
Recommended:
Have a line of 3—5 players behind each cone.
Vary passes 2 and 3 to keep the shooter on their toes (pace, bounciness, accuracy).
Have a coach feeding the balls from the baseline for safety purposes.
Rotate goalkeepers after every 2—4 repetitions.
