Organization/Setup:

  • 36x66yd

    1 Goal, 2 counter goals

    5 Attackers vs 4 Defenders +GK

     Define objectives

    • Objective - Keep the ball, advance the ball, create chance, score goal

    • What is the specific game situation you want to create in order to challenge the player and facilitate learning?

      • When the team is in possession and advancing from the middle 1/3 into the attacking 1/3 with a pass played into the 9 in order to create chances to score goals.

    Define desired behavior

    • What is the current behavior?

      • Pass gets played into the 9 and team loses opportunity to create chance to score

    • What is the desired behavior in the situation? (5 W’s)

      • What - Attacking in the final 1/3 to create chances

      • Who - 9, 7, 11, 10, 6

      • Where - Centrally in the attacking 1/3 with the 9 in possession

      • When - When the ball gets passes into the 9

      • Why - To create the best chance to score goals

      • (Main principles, sub-principles, player actions)

        • Principles: Finish the attack as fast as possible

          • Sub-principles:

            • Separate: time or run or quick movement to unmark

            • Final pass: through-ball or combination play

            • Cross: into space of player

        • Player Actions: Passing, Supporting, Adapting Body Shape

    Define Coaching Points

    • What is the developmentally appropriate coaching language you want to use?

      • Body shape for best decision (play the way you face), Supporting angles & runs to penetrate defensive line, Passing into space versus into feet

    • What are the coaching points you want to make for specific players/groups for players?

      • 9 - Back to goal, play bounce pass back. Half-Turn = play forward (dribble/pass/shoot)

      • 7 and 11 make diagonal runs behind defensive line

      • 8 playing the thru pass and supporting attack

    Coaching Interactions:
Expecting a breakdown of the attacking play.
Demo up-back-thru combination play for the final pass to score. Demo give & go with winger and cm to create chance to score. Individual coaching - how each attacking player moves best to support the play. Natural stoppage (ball goes out) - technical breakdown (pass too heavy or too soft). Supporting angle isn't correct.

    Define the learning interactions

(how will player behavior influence coach behavior, what errors do you anticipate from the players and how will you help support their learning? When do you interact with the players/teaching moments? How do you want to interact with the players (teaching actions)

  • Regressions/Progressions:

    • Regression: Add another attacker to make it 6v4+GK
    • Progression: Add another defender to make it 5v5+GK
