Setup: Using just the defensive third of the pitch, with the option of making the pitch narrower (shown with red lines). The goalkeeper would need the full size goal behinnd him, and a mini goal down the opposite end. You will need the GK, two centre halfs, and an opposing striker.
Instructions: The team we are working with (white) try to play out and score into the mini goal. The green striker tries to win the ball and score into the big goal.
Coaching Points:
- Ensure the players recognise the 3v1 advantage they have desipite being infront of their own goal.
- Encourage centre backs to receive back foot to play forwards.
- Express confidence in their ability, including the keeper.
Coaching the Counter Topic:
- Ask the forward to be aggresive/clever to win the ball back.
- Provide incentives so he doesn't lose interest with the underload he is experiencing.
Start Points: Vary the keeper starting from a goal kick... a serve from the coach... 1v1 between striker and keeper.
