Small sided game:
8 v 8 plus 2 gks.
Objectives:
Progressions:
1: Have to play defenders, who then go to wide man either side, wide man can drive inside or paly striker. 1 of defenders then makes over lap into vacated shaded area who recieves ball and crosses.
Only way team can score is from a cross from defending player overlapping .
No one allowed in shaded area., strikers can only stay in their half.
2: As above , but dont have to play defenders first , can go straight into strikers, or wide players if they come infield out of shaded area.
3: Free play, hoping the principles have been put in place for the movement to happen naturally.
Work/rest: 5 minutes work/ 3minutes rest.
Duration: 24 minutes.
Coaching points:
As previous, plus.
Defenders recognising who needs to make the overlap and when.
Strikers making 2 movements to recieve pass.
Crosser being able to pick appropriate areas dependant on defenders.

Functional midfield passing and cross to finish (10 mins)
Function.: Realistic patern of play to finish with a shot.
Aims:Passing and movement to finish with a cross and shot on goal
Organisation: 2 groups working both ends of pitch. (8players and 1 gk per group)
Players start at centre of pitch, pass as shown above and follow pass.
1 striker plays first pass then spins for cross. collects ball and spare forward steps in.
2 resting players at start who become active the next sequence.
Players follow their pass to go the next starting position, however wide player crosses then comes into be striker, and full back goes to wide player.
Work/rest ratio: 4 minute work and 2 minutes rest x 2 sets each side
Total duration of practice: 24 minutes
Coaching points: timing of movement from recieving player.
Cones are designed for each player to make 2 movements to recieve ball.
Player recieving pass 2. Is encouarged to drive inside with the ball before passing to striker.
Safe side passing.
Weight of pass, encourage 2 touch for the first practice on either side.
