Technical Drill 2

Technical Drill 2 - Passing Square

Ensure this is done at pace, with good passing mechanics and a burst of speed after the pass.

The passing from opposite stations remains constant throughout the entire drill. Only movements after the pass are altered during progressions. Add these progressions.

Pass and follow straight across (Start with this - 1min)

Pass straight and run diagonally (1min)

Pass straight and run horzontally (1min)

Duration of free movement; The group can choose themselves where to run. Either run straight, diagonally or horizontal but the team must communicate look up and ensure that all stations are occupied. This will get them talking and communicating and introducing an element of decision making.

3 vs 2

3v2

Goalkeeper is the server and the coach shouts which coloured area the ball iss distributed too (static kick from gound to begin with).

Once ball is played the attackers have 15 seconds to score with a 3v2.

Coaching points to Attackers

Play at pace, receiving wingers to drive into space.

No9 be creative in movement; either try and receive the ball at feet and hold up play/or run in behind and look for a through ball.

Attackers exploit numerical advantage and keep width.

If No9 is not being involved enough, stipulate they have to get 9 onto the ball prior to scoring. If switching play to free winger is not happening, stipulate it must happen before scoring.

Managing Defenders

Once CB picks up the 9 and the other engages the attacking winger with the ball. We leave the back post. If play is switched and they can react; the centre back marking the 9 spins out and engages and the other centre back comes in to mark the 9. The free player must always be the one furthest away from the ball.

Push attackers wide making harder to score.

Hold players up; 15 seconds and play stops.

If they intercept clear ball to the wider coloured markers for a point.
