2v2. How quick do the defenders get out to shut the play.
Make it a competition between the 2 teams. bonus point if the defending team win the ball and find a player by the manequins.
Key points:
2 defenders defend the goal first.
Apply pressure with a purpose, where to show the ball carrier
ensure defender off the ball does not get caught square ball watching, for a run in behind
defensive distances crucial
develop this activity to a 3v2, 3v3 then 4v3 expand the pitch as required.
get a tempo going
As we don't have small goals at present use manequins and players around them as a passing option out for the defenders

Red team are to play long and direct.
Starting point (s) keeper.
Looking at the transition speed to get into shape. For this to work the reds must also work hard to get into their shape when play restarts.
Key coaching points.
the 2 wide players tucking inside and narrow to start with to be narrow and compact.
connection of 10& 9 . 9 can be smart ready to play second phase.
progress to looking at the starting positions of the 2 full backs
2 centre backs shape when attacking first ball - important to keep the ball out of this shaded area
Final coaching point is how the wide players expand in attack to counter.
Develop the practice so that once the wide players have started to get into their shape quickly we can start to tempt the opposition into play out from the back, particularly when we are at home
Final progression is to move the starting point to free kicks in attacking half and then around the half way.
