Releasing into flank for long ball
Organization:
-Ball starts with player A. Player B starts at pole (similar to position in game).
-Player A will throw/kick ball into flank to resemble long ball from opponent.
-Player B will release and track down ball and play one of the three mini goals based on command from Player A.
-If "man on" play mini #3 and get into position to receive it again like in a game.
-If "turn" get head up and find either mini #1 or #2 and get into a position to support the ball that was played.
5 reps=1 set.
Switch players after each set.
Each player completes 2 sets on each side of pitch.
Progressions:
-Add a live opponent to give more pressure when tracking ball
-Limit touches that it takes to get pass off
Keys:
-Sprint to ball as if someone is directly behind you
-Make sure to scan and have a look prior to getting to the ball
-Focus on accuracy of passes

CB Technical Exercise
Organization:
-Server will start with ball at feet and pass at the poles
-CB will anticipate and intercept pass and play back to server
-CB will then immediately drop off behind the poles and win a header thrown by server
-Server will then roll a ball out to either side and CB must play first time in mini goal
**4 passes into mini goal= 1 set. Do 5 sets.
Progression:
-The interception can be in the air
-Second ball can also be in the air to force player to adjust
Keys:
-Make sure CB is getting in the habit of scanning constantly as they recover back to starting position

Playing out of the flank area
Organization:
Movement to receive the ball
-Can keep your movement within the width of the cones (6 yards)
Body shape to receive the ball.
-Open your hips to receive on your back foot (left foot in picture) to play forward.
-Pressing player is coming tight, receive with body between ball and player on front foot (right foot in this picture) to play inside or forward.
3 passing options
-down the line into the channel
-inside short
-inside diagonal ball
Progression
-Receive to take first touch past the mannequin
-Then play any pass.
-Add in a sprint around the server and back to start position for physical output.
-If working in pairs,
Do 3 reps (1 rep=3 passes) then change. 3 reps=1 set.
Each player completes 2 sets on each side of pitch
Keys:
-Double movement within the 6 yards (red cones) to make it realistic to the game
-First touch forward out of your feet
-Furthest mini goal requires the use of laces

Passing options- Recovery runs
Organization:
Red Line- Player movement
Dotted Line- Passing line
Blue Player server- Red Player Worker
3 passes
-receive to play outside back
-receive to open up to play weakside pass
-out of feet and play channel pass for fwd
Once the final pass is complete, recover to defend a cross.
-Rotate roles after 3 reps.
Work both sides of the field. 3 reps left, 3 reps right= 1 set.
Do 5 sets.
Progression:
-If you have enough players, have a forward making channel run, someone crossing.
-Increase distance from the 18-yard box depending on physical outcomes required from session.
Keys:
-Focus on getting the ball out of your feet to prep for pass
-Focus on the speed at which you can get a quality pass off
-Technique on defensive clearances for the crosses

Exercise #1
CB/MF- Distribution and Defensive Headers
Organization:
-CB plays ball to CMF, then drops immediately to create time and space.
-CMF plays ball back in between poles, CB gets head up to play in two touches to mini goal #1.
-CB repeats the same from opposite side into #2.
-After two reps (1 on each side), CB quickly closes down the mannequin and CMF throws a ball up to CB to win header (high and wide).
-After header, CB repeats another round before getting a rest.
2 rounds= 1 set. Do 3 sets and then move to mini goals #3 and #4.
Progressions:
-Limit touches
-Incorporate diagonal service (receive on right side, play mini goals #3 and #4)
Keys:
-Get first touch out of your feet to prep for pass
-Get in the habit of scanning
-Face the game
