Skills with Movement (20 mins)

Skills with Movement:

Split players into 2 groups

One group is outside the circle with the ball and the other team starts inside the circle.

The coach will tell the players inside the circle what they will be working on.

Volleys with Laces, Volleys with instep, Thigh Volley, 1 touch pass, 2 touch pass, turns, etc

The cylce goes for 1 minute with players in the center resetting there each time before finding a new partner.

Coaches encourage game speed approaching the player serving the ball and recovery speed as the check back to the middle.

Possession with 3 teams (20 mins)

THE SESSION: Possession with 3 teams. The defending teams must have a bib before they can defend. The other 2 teams try to keep possession. Once the defending team wins the ball or forces it out of play they drop the bibs and transition to offense while the team that lost the ball picks up a bibs and transitions to defense.

PROGRESSIONS: Limit the amount of touches

Fully Opposed: (20 mins)

Organization:

1. 4 squares in the corners of the area.

2. 1 Player in each square acting as Neutral players.

3. 3 v 3 insde the area.

Instructions:

3v3 + 4 Neutrals aas it shows in the diagram, the team in possession aiming to keep the ball as long as possible using the four neutrals, and the defending team pressuring in order to regain back the ball to keep possession.

Coaching Points:

1. Use the width and depth of the field.

2. Define the role of each attacker:

1st Attacker:

- Achieve Penetration (Pass,Dribble) to keep possession.

2nd Attcker:

- Support of 1st attacker (Angle and Distance).

2v2 SSG (20 mins)

Organization

-10 players

-see diagram for set-up and equipment

-area of approx. 25x20m (adapt for age/abilit/numbers)

Activity

-on coaches call ("red" "yellow") 2 players for each team must react, touch that colour cone, then run around their net, with coach passing ball in, to play 2v2, can score in either goal, if win the ball attack opponents net

Possible variations/progression

-x amount of passes/time

-1 touch finish

Coaching Points

-good decision-making

-read the defenders movement and positioning

-should I dribble into the space or pass to open team mate

-"suck" defender in and "pass to pass" the defender

-attack with good speed

-finish with accuracy

Technical: Attacking Skills: Crossing Drill 1 (20 mins)

THE SESSION:

40 x 30 yards

4 cones, 2 goals

PROGRESSIONS:

1. The wide player receives a pass from the coach and plays a longer pass to the opposite player.

2. The opposite player sets the ball back so that the wide player can run onto the ball and cross 1st time.

3. The attackers must use realistic movements to get into the box and attempt to score from the cross.

4. Once a shot is taken an attack is launched in the opposite direction.

5. The drill runs continually for a set period of time before the attackers and crossers switch roles.

KEY MESSAGES/POINTS:

The drill tests the wide players' ability to get the ball into the box the first time and gives the Forwards practice at finishing crosses.

THE SESSION:

PROGRESSIONS:

1. The wide player dribbles to the opposite corner and crosses the ball.

2. The attackers must use realistic movements to get into the box and attempt to score from the cross.

3. Once a cross has been made, a different wide player dribbles straight away in the opposite direction to make a cross on the other goal.

4. Once a shot is taken an attack is launched in the opposite direction.

5. The drill runs continually for a set period of time before the attackers and crossers switch roles.

KEY MESSAGES/POINTS:

The drill encourages wide players to practice crossing the ball using both feet and gives the Forwards practice at finishing crosses.
