WHAT: improve the ability of wide players to recognize when there is space on the flanks to run into to maintain and join in the attack.

WHERE: In the flanks areas of the middle and attacking thirds

WHEN: We are in attacking shape in the attacking half. When their is space to attack behind the defense.

WHY: To penetrate the flanks areas and create scoring opportunities from crosses

Stage 1: Warm Up (15 mins)

INTENSITY: Moderate ACTIVITY: 2 min REST: 1 mins INTERVALS: 5

Activity:

- 3v1 + a #9 in the box to cross to a goal

- Target team (Yellow): #2, #3, #6, #7, #8, #9, #10, and #11

- Opposition team (Black): #2, #3.

- Players combine past #2 or #3 before crossing to #9 to finish.

- Work on being creative with Wall pass and Overlaps.

- Players rotate by following their pass.

- Ensure you rotate #2 & #3.

Coaching Points:

1. Passing: Accuracy, weight and Pace

2. Types of Crosses: Driven, Lofted, Early or Late

3. Dribbling and Running with the ball down the flank - prep touch for cross

4. Finishing: Surface Selection of the foot, head and ball to score.

Stage 2: Small Sifded Activity (20 mins)

INTENSITY: Moderate ACTIVITY: 3 min REST: 1 mins INTERVALS: 6

Activity:

- 6 v4 to Goal with Counter Goals

- Two teams of 6, one team will perform lofted and driven crosses for 3 mins.

- Target team (Yellow): #6, #7, #8, #9, #10, #11

- Opposition team (Black): #1, #2, #3, #4.

- The Yellow team play to score in the big goal. Black team scores in either counter goals.

Scoring: A hundred points for a one touch finish from a cross. 1 point for every other goal. Play to 300 points. or 5 counter goals.

Coaching Points:

- Width:

- Support: Angles and Distance

- Penetration: Recognition on when to dribble and when to combine

Activity:

- 7v7 to a Regular Goal and 2 Counter Goals with target players.

- Target Team (Yellow): #2, #3, #6, #7, #9, #10 and #11

- Opposition team (Black): #1, #2, #3, #4, #6, #8, & #9.

- The Yellow team to score in the regular goal. The Black team wins the ball then tries to score in any of the 2 counter goals.
