Key Principles:
Delay - First player closest to the ball should close them down quickly. The centre-forward should be directly involved with the defending (1st line of defence)
Depth - Players should be able to support first defender to create 2 defenders vs 1 attacker situation. Encourage them to win the ball and create 2v1 attacking situations because of it - this will help motivate attacking players to work defensively.
Compactness - The wingers should tuck in and narrow the width, centre-forward should be willing to drop in and defence, centre-midfielder tracks central players and centre-backs stay tight (no more than 10-12 metres seperation)
