Football/Soccer Session (Academy Sessions): FP Training RTT - Defensive Principles

Defensive principles - Blocking central areas (15 mins)

Organisation:

• Working with the red team, will be looking at how to stop central passes and frock the play wide/back to ensure the ball goes away from goal
• Green team can only shoot passed the horizontal line as it encourages the in possession team to build the play up and combine to get closer to goal - Sub Principles - probe to penetrate
• Green team encouraged to play through the central area as if they score central, then it counts for 2
• If the green team play wide to then cross the ball to finish it then only counts for 1 
• Red team to stay narrow and compact whilst applying the relevant NEAR man pressure 
• Force play wide to then stop the cross rather than allowing penetrating passes through

Individual:

• NEAR man pressure to stop attacking play 
• Basic technical detail - quality of passing, receiving, movement/double movement
• Ability to look forward play forward and run forward 

Relationships:

• Ability to combine and create to score 
• Ability to communicate with teammates - verbal and non verbal

Team:

• Willingness to win
• RUN, FIGHT, PLAY
