Specific roles to play
• Centre backs to remain compact, consistently talking with twin screen to protect shaded area. Also communicating with full backs when to close down and when to stay as a unit.
• Twin screen to remain compact, if they start to split we are vulnerable for a central attack. Continuous communication with centre backs to remain in position.
• Full backs to remain with their defensive unit, keep attack in wide positions, covering back line if attack comes through central position.
• Body positions, speed of press, pressing wide.
Things to look out for:
• Transition from defence into attack - are the twin screen leaving gaps that can become vulnerable if we loose possession?
• Twin screen becoming split due to wide play - can we stay compact while forcing the ball out wide?
• Back four and GK communication with the screen
What ifs?
• What if full back doesnt close and allows player inside? Centre backs to shuffle?
• What if the ball is being fed between centre backs and full backs? - Shuffle across? early press?
• What if Blues try to play a long ball through the middle? - Can we intercept? Can we gain seconds? Can we cover runners?
