Wide area overloads SSG (15 mins)

Session Objective 

  • Recognising when an overload is forming in wide areas, move into positions to create the over load.
  • Developing the players’ understanding of pitch position, knowing where the overload is likely to be 
  • Developing players’ understanding of how combinations can be used in order to create overloads

  • Increase positional understanding in relation to creating a over load 
Set Up
  • 6v6 + 4 neutral players - 2 goals in the areas - directional game
  • central players must use both wide players before they can score.
  • Wide players can support each other when they have the ball.
Coaching points
  • Scan the pitch, see the space and encourage your team to play wide.
  • As the ball is moving, quickly move to where the ball is travelling to,. 
  • Wide player support the player receiving the pass.

Wide area overloads SSG

  • Session Objective - Recognising when an overload is forming in wide areas, move into positions to create the over load.

  • Increase positional understanding in relation to creating a over load

Att v Def Creating overloads in wide areas (20 mins)

Session objective 

  • Manipulate the ball to one side, with the intention of creating an overload the opposite side.
  • Being able to recognise when a overload is likely, positioning around the overload.

Coaching Points

  • When moving, you get in front of your player to create the overload.
  • B6/B8 check in & out, move towards the ball, draw the opponent in and then check out into the space you vacated

Scenario 1

  • B6 starts by playing a pass to B11, both teams shift over.
  • B8 moves towards the ball to create space for B6, who drops looking to receive from B11
  • B11 passes to B6 who then spreads wide to B7
  • The trigger is when B6 open their body, start moving across quickly to support B7
  • B2 move up to over/under lap

Scanario 2 (20 mins)

Session objective 

  • Isolate Y7, play around them to create the overload
  • Being able to recognise when a overload is likely, positioning around the overload.

Scenario 1

  • B3 starts with the ball and commits Y7, pass inside at last possible moment
  • B6/8 support inside, 'give and go' with B3
  • B3 play inside and run beyond Y7 
  • B3&B11 now have an over load against Y2.
  • B3 drive towards Y2 and make them make a decision.

Coaching Points

  • B3 pass inside at last possible moment, commit player and pass ball.
  • Communicate that you want a give and go pass.
  • Powerful forward runs to get in front of opponent
