0-12 Part 1

Building out under different pressure looks -

Scout team alternate between immediate high press, delayed high press and no high press with the team tasked with making good decisions on the ball from both dead balls and live play. Scout team set up in a 4-2-3-1 with one of the 2 deeper midfielders joining from deep into the high press towards the ball side of the field

Key points: Decision-making in possession when under pressure, not looking to overplay when forced into tight areas by the front 4. Find opposite side when given time to do so using inverted FB. 9 play on or outside the ball sided CB. Weak side winger/8 looking to run through gap.

Creating overloads wide vs playing inside -

Scout team alternate between leaving wingers high and allowing our FB to advance and packing into a compact 5 midfielders. When our FB gets in behind, if scout team chooses to send 8 out, look to combine into feet of the 9/10. If the scout team keeps inside, FB should drive down the line to create a 2v1. If scout team is more compact to begin with, the rotation of the 8 moving down, winger inside and FB high should be implemented.

Key points: Look to get behind their wingers, create overload either centrally or wide. What does our rest defence look like (inverted FB, 6 and CB coming over to take care of high winger). FB decision-making in possession based on the situation. 8s mobile in the pocket if free, weak side 8 running behind CBs

Defending high up the field

Scout team starts with varied types of possession, the 1st team works to deny the ball to FB front foot and force them into playing uncomfortable passes for them. 6 for scout team can rotate low into the middle of CBs every now and then.

Key points: 7/11 cheat a little wider than normal, encouraging the central pass more than we have done before. 8 & 10 are ESTABLISHED and not rotated. 9 & 10 are engaging from 30 yards out and not the 18 yard box. as we force them back, we can rais the line, but not initially. 6/8 ready to press into the back of their midfielders once the ball goes inside

Defending deep & counter-attacking

Each ball will start with scout team throw in in the attacking third or live possession in the attacking third. Scout team commits FB down that side while weak side recovers a little centrally near the 6 but not completely. Scout team looks for early service from wide areas. Ball side CB for scout team should go with our 9.

Key points: Always establish a 3 man line centrally to deal with crosses, midfielders should recover from above. 6/8 need to recover to near side of penalty area in case of inverted winger. ( should begin to draw wide (ball side) to drag CB to him. Weak side winger look to attack through the gap created, 10 joins wide to stretch them.
