2nd Phase, ball mastery/technical work
Objective: Work on patterns we can use when playing out of the back, using our center backs.
Organization: Everyone does the same exercise at the same time. Pattern 1, players start at the edge of the box and make a run wide. In option A, the defender dribbles through cones, and dribbles to the start of the opposite line. In option B, the defender checks wide, and passes down the sideline. The sideline player dribbles to the opposite line. Pattern 2, players start wide and check into the middle to receive the ball. Option A, the defender receives the ball and dribbles to the outside, before dribbling back to the start of the opposite line. Option B, the defender receives the ball and passes the ball outwide. The wide player dribbles back to the opposite line.
Key words: Dribble into space, take your touch away from pressure and use both feet. Check your shoulder.
Guided questions: 1.Where do I take my next touch? 2.Why do we get wide? 3. Why do we let the ball go across our body?
Answers: 1.Into space or away from pressure. 2. In order to support the player on the ball and spread the defense. 3. As the ball goes across our body and we use our back-foot, we can take a much better touch into space or away from pressure.

Warm-up game/Rondo (20 mins)
1st Phase, intentional free play or rondo.
Objective: To welcome the players and create positive routine. Encourage the players to take initiative for the activity.
Organization: For a game, set up small sided fields that are approximately 30x40, 5v5, max! For the rondo, play 4v0, with a player sitting out. If a player on the inside makes a mistake, sub that player out. In the 5v1, switch the middle player every time there's a mistake.
Key words: Dribble into space, take your touch away from pressure and use both feet. Check your shoulder.
