9v9 small sided game (15 mins)
Key Factors
9x9 Small sided game. Blue team to retreat into own half when defending. When in defensive position, to set up to have a narrow back 4 with a twin screen in front of back 4. Twin screen to stay 10-12 yards apart and move to the side in which the attack is coming. Trigger for defence to press is when Red team enter blue half. Blue player presses man with ball and other blues closes down Red opponent within their area.
Blue 9 and 10 to postion themselves narrow to show Red center backs to play wide to Red wingers.
Blue screen to protect middle area of pitch again staying narrow to force ball wide to Red wingers. Blue screen to keep distance apart. If Red centre mids take ball wide, twin screen also move wide, but keeping that same distance and stopping the passing lane through the middle by getting side on to again force them wide.
Blue full back to curve run to stop inside pass lane, and force Red winger wide to deliver cross.
Blue centre backs to man mark Red 9 and 10. Touch tight man marking due to sitting deep.
If Red move the ball side to side, Blue to keep defensive shape and move with play.
If Red 10 drops into the hole between Blue screen and centre half, centre half needs to comunicate to one of twin screen to drop back with Red 10 and get Blue 10 then to become the screen to take over twin screen duties.
Organisation
Pitch will be shortened to 3/4 size with cones to mark far pitch line. Taper pitch to remove the need for Red full backs and blue wide players to create a 9 v 9 small sided game.
Flags located to indicate the half way line for blue players to drop to defend.
Few balls at either end to start. Take turns to change ends when the ball goes out, to allow for blues also to get into defensive shape after transition of play.
