10v6 formation working (30 mins)
Players: 14-20 players. example uses 16.
3 box 3 principles (back 3, 2 6's, 2 10's and wide players (wingers/wing backs)
Grid Sizes:
- bottom box 20 metres by 20 metres
- middle zones minimum 10metres in depth
- top box 20 x 20 metres
- wide zones 10 metres wide and 20 long
Description and rules:
-Reds look to transfer the ball from one end to the other by breaking lines and finding the end player
- Reds make 3 passes and then can transfer forward, after 3 passes a 6 can drop in or a pressing player can jump, the challenge is now to find the free man and link to play forward to the target man
- Once the ball progresses to the target man, the 2 10's drop in and act as Cb's, 6's move up a line to continue the 6 role and CB's drop into the next line to work as 10's. this gets them to understand the role of other players.
- wing backs locked in a wide channel. they can only receive with a pass inside the lines as show, this stops players playing the easy wide pass and getting trapped
- progression - 1o can drop into wing back/winger wide space and wide player moves up, then if space appears inside they can also move in and rotate.
- centre back can play direct to striker but only below the knee
Coaching points:
- maximising the space.centre backs deep and use width (only width of the box as to create passing lanes)
- 6's stay more narrow than the 10's unless clearly rotating to create space
play 6 to bounce out
- receive on the half turn and play forward
- up back through
- all players on different passing lanes
- when deeper 6 receives it's a Y using the deeper 6, higher six, and 2 10's
- starting shape - central pentagon (6's, 10,s 9)
- if blues win it they score in any mini goal but must be in the area to score there. if no mini goals just dribble into that space and take a touch for a goal.
- rotate players so they understand all roles.
