Coach the Technique and Skill of Passing

Stage 2: Neural-prep
The 12 players (3 groups of 4 players and 1 ball per group) will
continue to work through a series of speed and agility work with
balls and cones in a 15x23 designated area marked by cones.
-Players will shuffle to a cone called out by coach (ex yellow cone) and backwards quickly to orange cone (then sprint to first red cone and then sprint out to the end cone touch player on the end and switch position
-Players will shuffle to a cone called out by coach (ex yellow cone) and backwards quickly to orange cone then sprint out to the end cone, touch player on the end and switch positions.
-Then have the players sprint out to a cone called by the coach and backwards quickly to orange (then sprint out the then end cone, touch player on the end and switch position.
-The coach can call out 2 colors before they sprint out.
Progression,
-coach will call out a color, players sprint out to the cone and back then sprint out to first red cone.
-far player makes a pass into him, player takes 2 touches and passes the ball back then follows his pass to end. Far end player stops the ball and then sprints back to the end of the line.

Stage 3: Technical (5-7 minutes)
-12 players
-End zone game
-5vs5 in the middle with 2 neutral players in the end zone
-Players in the end zone can move within the end zone to support their team mates but can't come out
-Players try and attempt to score a goal.by playing a pass into their teammate who is in the end zone
-Players try to play the ball forward when it's on, or try and keep possession by playing the ball back.
-once
-Once the complete a pass to their teammates they get a point, then they keep possession and try to score on the other end
-continuous play, 1st team to 5 points win
-switch players in the end zone every 2 minutes

Organization:
-44x50 area.
-12 players,
- set up 6v6 with keepers, extra balls around the perimeter.
-Team formation is 1-1-3-1 and 1-2-1-2
Instructions:
-Players try and attempt to score a goal.
-Players try to play the ball forward when it's on, or try and keep possession by playing the ball back
-Free play following the laws of the game with the
exception of restarts.
Restarts: Kick-ins from the touch line, goal kicks from ends and
after goals are scored at the midway point of the field.
Coaching Points:
-part of your foot
-part of the ball
-ankles locked when passing
-Pace/ Timing/ Weight
-accuracy
1.Look for opportunities to pass the ball forward- why/when?
2.Players should be getting into open space to support your teammates and help them to receive a pass
3 Make a pass that will provide an opportunity/ don't force the issue if it's not on
4 Movement off the ball to create space.
5.Communicate - call for the ball

Set up
-12 red cones set up as above
-3 grids
-2 grids 15x20 on the ends with 1 grid 5x15 in the middle.
Activity
-12 players
-3 teams of 4 set up as above
-coaches plays a pass into one grid (blue team)
-one defender from (green team) becomes active defender when blue receives the ball
-blue team tries to keep possession and when the opportunity arises they can play a pass across to the other team in the grid (yellow team).
-the green players in the middle can also try and stop the pass from getting across
-if defending teams wins the ball or ball goes out of bounds the attacking (blue team) becomes the defenders and must send 1 player into far grid ( Yellow team) and the green team now becomes the attacking group.
-the coach will play a ball into the other grid.
-play goes back and fourth
Progression
-add competition whenever you get the pass across you get a point,1st team to 5 points wins
-if it becomes too easy send in 2 defenders

Cool Down:
-Players will begin with a light jog within the confines of the 44x50
yard area and then perform a variety of dynamic stretches:
Heel flicks / cross-overs / high knees / side-stepping / skipping /
lunges / hamstring sweeps / hamstring kicks / opening & closing
groin (gate) / forwards side-to-side / backwards side-to-side

7minutes)
-12 players are to perform warm up within the designated area
-18 yards marked by cones. Walking around to start, then add
more arm swing,
-Get the players skipping while still moving the arm around in
circles. Bring it to a slow jog and get the players to perform specific
movements: high knees, butt kicks, raising legs
to open and close imaginary gates, perform passing motion by
passing imaginary ball (right and left leg).
