- Get the girls able to understand the visual cues necessary to press as a unit. From attackers to midfielders to defenders.
- Start their learning of the communication necessary to tell your teammates where and when to press
- Having the calmness and ability to listen whilst playing break neck speeds.
See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
ORGANIZATION:
- Large-ish grid (30x20/25), ideally positioned over halffield (to be realistic to our painting a picture)
- 5 v 5 into endzones (Like breaking into the attacking third)
INSTRUCTION:
- Players play 5 v 5 and try penetrating the "endzones" with either a pass or a dribble.
- Ball MUST be stopped before leaving the "endzone" (have control)
- If ball goes out, it is imediatley played back in by coach
COACHING POINTS: As a Player Behind the Initial Presser
- Visual Cues: Watch your tammates body shape, If they are pushing to the outside, get ready for that ball down the line, and visa versa.
- Verbal Communication: As the player behind the initial pressure at any given time, talk to them, tell them to either pressure inside or out, depending on what? Your positioning.
- From the 1 v 1's: Prevent forward movement, Have good brakes (don't rush in, PATIENCE AT SPEED)
- Stay in shape but be aware on who is in your space.
- Visual Cues: If they are able to get their head up, prepare for a pass and bloke a lane the best you can. (remember do not let them go forward)
See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
ORGANIZATION:
- Large playing area ending in the middle of the PK box and starting somewhere near the end of the center circle.
- Not full field width.
- 2 teams; Red vs. Blue; Red are attackers, Blue are defenders (focusing coaching points on blue team)
- In top grid is a 4 vs. 2 (6,8,10,5) vs. (8,10)
- In lower grid waits the back 4 of Blue (2,3,4,5) and thier CDM (#6) playing in front against the reds Striker partnership w/ either 7 or 11.
INSTRUCTIONS:
- Coach starts by feeding a ball to any of the 4 reds in the top grid. They must combine for 3 passes before being able to link up with their 2 reds in the lower grid (attacking through midfield)
- Once they get the ball through to the lower grid at least 3 reds must join their teammates and attack the large goal
- They are allowed to play backwards to the top gird if needed.
- BLUE defenders in top grid can follow play back into lower grid to help defend. (Like in a game)
- If blue wins the ball they are looking to get the ball into the shadded pitch area by either dribbling or finding their neutral player (GREEN)
- When blue wins the ball, 2 from the bottom grid can go forward into the top grid as well.
- When the ball is scored or goes out, each team resets quickly and gets ready for a new ball from coach into the top grid.
- To get a point from the neutral player in shaded area, you must compete a pass from them inside the shaded area. It is not enough to simply get it up there, need a play off them as well.
COACHING POINTS: For an Entire Team Pressing in Our Lines
- Visual Cues: Reading teammates individual body shape
- If we attack in threes how many should be considred immediate defenders? 4-5: Either ready to cover for missed tackles or support for their teammate once the ball is won.
- Keeping our distances strong so we command as much space on the field as possible.
- Now following the ball, keep your discipline
- From 1 v 1's: Close space quickly to give player on the ball no time to make a decision BUT have a decision in your own head for when you do win it.
- Once we do win it, there are two options; 1. Forward right away and 2. Relaxing and simply keeping the ball (Which one is best? Correct, depends on the cues given us by defenders)
EXPLANATION OF LINES:
- It may look confusing but there is a method to the maddness
- A's are movement related to the passes labeled "1,2,3" and B's are movements related to passes labeled "I,II,III"
- the RED "X" denoted where the ball is won by the defenders and thus marks the transition from 1,2,3 to I,II,III.

1 v 1 - Pressing to not allow forward movement (10 mins)
ORGANIZATION:
- 1 v 1 channels (small space maybe 15x10 yards)
- Have 2 or 3 available depending on numbers and what you wish your work to rest rate to be.
INSTRUCTIONS:
- Players go 1 v 1 depending on which line the coach passes to.
- Players bring ball back to coach when it is out of play.
- You can stay in your line or switch.
COACHING POINTS: For the Player Leading the Press
- Quickly close down space but have good brakes so you aren't beaten by a simple dribble or pass.
- Prevent any forward movement.
- BE BRAVE! Get in there and do not back away, you control that space behind you.
- Pantience at speed....but coach what does that mean?? Do not rush, but make them rush...
- Distance: Not too far to give away a simple pass but not so close that you are beaten by a simple dribble. PREVENT FORWARD MOVEMENT
