Skill Introduction (20 mins)

Pass and Move Passing Practice

Organisation

- Set up a grid about 30 x 25

- Split the squad into two teams and ask them to fill out the space in the area.

Instruction

- Each team is given a ball and must keep possession within their own team.

Coaching Points

- Know where your teammates are at all times. Keep your head up and take little pictures of the field around you

- Play the simple pass and move into another space.

- Know where your first touch is going to go before you receive the ball.

- Open up your body and play in to space.

Progressions

1. Add in a second ball.

2. Players are not allowed to talk. This immediately encourages the players to get their heads up and look for the correct pass. Players must make eye contact with the player they are passing the ball to before they pass. To make it even more challenging, restrict to 2-3 touches.

3. 1 touch, but players still stay in their space.

4. Use a fake and let the ball run past the player.

Skill Training/Game (15 mins)

4 vs 3 + 2 bouncers

MAKE TWO GRIDS SO EVERYONE IS PLAYING

Organisation:

- Set up , 20 x 25m grid  with a 2-3m end zone on either side. (can be bigger or smaller)

- Split team up as shown.

 Instruction

- Bouncer starts with the ball and feeds to one of the teams

- To begin with, each team must try and string together 10 passes.

- The bouncers can pass the ball to each other and play on the team with possession.

- Work 5 minutes on. 1 minute rest and swap roles.

STEP UP

- Once they become adept at keeping the ball, add direction

- Team gets a point if they receive the ball in their respective end zone. Cannot dribble in. Must find a pass to a teammate.

- Extra point if they hit both bouncers before entering the end zone.

STEP UP

- Add Four goal. 2 on each side.

- Players will tend to start dribbling. Counter this by challenging them to 2-3 touches and constantly finding space.

 Coaching Points

- Know where you're going to pass the ball before you receive it

- Know where your teammates and defenders are

- Keep your head up, keep looking.

- Open your body, dont play back into danger.

- First touch goes where??!!

- Where is your free player??

- Move the ball at pace

Final Game (30 mins)

Final Game

 9 v 7 (U10's and U11's), 7 v 5 (U9's)

Set up a normal size field applicable to your age group. We will be setting up the goals to be available permanently for the 9's and on rotation for the 10's and 11's.

Create an overload for one team so they are constantly looking for the spare player. When you play even numbers, there is a tendency in training for everyone to man mark.

The extra player is out wide on both sides, and we must encourage players to try and change the direction of the attack

Create two channel's about 10m in width as shown above. The 7 & 11 are not allowed to leave this channel until the final third. whilst the 2 & 5 should be encouraged to hold their width in possession. This is more subliminal shape education. Allows the kids to begin to understand Shape.

Last 5 minutes can be 9 v 9, 7 v 7.

Coaching Points

- Let them play, without stopping the game too much.

- Provide individual pointers to kids on the run.

- Rotate and Substitute. So kids get to play attacking + defending team.
