These exercises will help your team ability to understand certain movements (on and off the ball) to promote building an attack.

See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
This exercise will help your team improve their ability to create passing combinations in the middle 1/3 of the field. Switching the point of attack by quick/sharp passing combinations.
Who?: #5, #6, #7, #9 (X2)
Size?: 15 yds between cones and poles. 5 yds between the poles
- Ball starts with #5, who will play ball into #6 (player next to the pole)
- #6 will receive the ball and play the ball wide to the #7
- #7 will receive the ball into space and switch the point of attack to the #9 (next person in line)
** Both balls will be going simultaneously**
Coaching Points:
1) Play the appropriate foot (back foot, which will open players hip up to the next pass)
2) Communicate early, which will improve speed of play and help teammate find the next pass
3) Mobility off the ball (check in and out of space, create space off of cone or pole, etc)

This progression will continue to improve your teams ability to combine in the midfield. Adding overlaps and bounce passes in order to switch the point of attack.
Who?: #5, #6, #7, #9 (X2)
Size?: 15 yards between cones and poles, 5 yds between poles
- Ball will start with #5, who plays the ball into #6
- #6 will "BOUNCE" it back to the #5, #6 will tell them to "HOLD", then overlap the #5
- #5 will play the ball wide to the #7, who will bounce it into open space
- #6 will follow the ball into space and switch the point of attack to the #9.
** Both balls can be played simultaneously**
** Same rotations as previous exercise (#5 to the pole, #6 goes wide, #7 goes far)
Coaching Points:
1) Early communication will improve speed of play and teammates ability to "FIND THE NEXT PASS"
2) Weight of each pass should be appropriate (firm ball in, soft lay off, firm ball to switch point of play)
3) Find the appropriate foot during passing combinations to increase speed of play, and encourage receiving player to turn hips quickly to find next pass.

See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
This exercise will help your team change the point of attack by central combinations (in back through), as well as switching the ball around the back 3 players.
-Ball starts with #3. Move ball across the back.
-#2 plays ball into the feel of #10, who then lays the ball off to #6
-#6 plays through to the #7.
-Repeat pattern going the other way.
** Everyone follows their pass, except the lay off man**
Coaching Points:
1) Mobility of players on and off the ball (hips to play, check into space, shift with ball movement)
2) Pace of passes and understanding of where ball needs to be played (back foot, into feet, into space)
3) Communication of the switch (CHANGE IT or SWITCH IT)

Passing Combinations/Movement (15 mins)
Passing Combinations #1
This activity will help your players understand.
"creating space off defenders"
"mobility before receiving ball"
"weight of passes",
"playing the proper foot depending on receiving lines."
1 - Ball begins at starting line and is played to the right
2 - Player checks off pole and receives ball on the back foot
3 - Player checks off pole and receives ball from (2) diagnally through the square
4 - Receives ball from (3) and repeats drill going opposite way
** Everyone follows their pass
** 2 balls going at once
Coaching Points:
1) Play back foot in order to help teammate open their hips to the play
2) Quick back peddle away from pole will help emulate creating space off defender
3) Communicate (eye contact, show where you want it, call for ball)
