When – When the opposition is in possession and we are compact beneath our line of confrontation, we win the ball and look to play positively quickly into seam 3 to create goalscoring opportunities
Why – As a team we are unable to compress the space around the ball with appropriate pressure to regain possession and play forward into seam 3 to create chances on goal.
Principle 1 – Make it predictable and press the ball carrier
Sub Principle 1.1 – Compress space around the ball (ball, space, man)
Principle 2 – Play forward run forward (penetrate seam 3)
Sub Principle 2.1 – Secure possession in seam 2

Game – 8v8v8 positive transition
Number of Players – 24 players
Field Size – 42 yds x 20 yds (18 yds x 20 yds x 2 with 6 central zone) with 2 mini goals offset each side
Duration – 6x2min 1 min rest (20min)
Exercise Rules – possession teams try to connect 5 passes before transfer to opposite side of the grid. Defending team try to win or intercept the ball and play positively to the 2 goals on dominant side of the grid
Objectives – be compact to not get played through centrally, Aggressive ball-oriented pressing, press the carrier, make it predictable, play positively in possession
Expected Behaviors – close the ball quickly, force the game one way, play positively in transition
Counter Behaviors – move the ball quickly, play ball between lines
Player Interactions – explain drill clearly before the session starts. Coach quickly over the flow and show the players desired actions between reps
Coaching Responsibilities
HC – Observing player actions
AC – Introduce the drill making coaching points for focus team
AC – serves to one side and coaches one side in possession
AC – serves to one side and coaches one side in possession

Game – 10v8 Counter attacking Game
Number of Players – Focus 8 + subs non-Focus 10
Field Size – 75 yds x 70 yds
Duration – 4x4min 1 min rest (20 min)
Exercise Rules – Keeper of non-focus team starts the ball. Non focus team attempt to penetrate Focus team to the end zone (goal). Focus team are trying to press the non-focus team to win the ball and counter quickly. Play throw ins. If the non-focus team play through or into the middle area and retain possession, they get a goal.
Objectives – Set line of confrontation, be compact to not get played through centrally, Aggressive ball-oriented pressing, press the carrier, make it predictable, play positively in possession, play behind them, run behind them
Expected Behaviors – win the ball, penetrate seam 3, pass forward, dribble forward, runs forward beyond them
Counter Behaviors – move the ball quickly, play ball between lines, penetrate centrally
Player Interactions – White board explanation of options in counter, coach over the flow of the game, coach focus team in between reps, stop and show
Coaching Responsibilities
HC – White board before drill, manage and coach 2 focus groups
AC – offside for non focus team
AC – orient non focus team
AC – Offside for the focus team

Field Size – Full field 120 yds x 70 yds
Duration – 2x11 min 2 min rest (25mins)
Exercise Rules – Balls around the outside to promote faster play. 3 corners are a goal. Throw ins will be played. 6 passes in the middle zone for non-focus team is a point. (If too much success in the middle zone for non-focus make it 2 touches in middle zone for non-focus.)
Objectives – Set line of confrontation, be compact to not get played through centrally, Aggressive ball-oriented pressing, press the carrier, make it predictable, play positively in possession, play behind them, run behind them
Expected Behaviors – win the ball, penetrate seam 3, pass forward, dribble forward, runs forward beyond them
