Finding the diagonal pass when under pressure in Quadrant 1
See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
SET UP:
1/4 Field
7 v 7 (depending on how numbers even out)
2 x seets of pinnies
Balls at the side of either goal
ACTIVITY:
Team in possession sets up with two wing players outside of the playing area and the rest of the team opening up space on the field
GK plays the ball to one of the two defenders looking to then play wide to start the attack
The defender that receives the ball either looks to their partner, a long diagonal, or centrally, but before the attacking team can score the ball must go wide to a wing teammate
Once the ball goes wide, then once then everyone can attack the opposition's goal
If ball possession is lost the opposite team must repeat going the other way
Everytime possession is won in the defensive end the wide play and diagonal must be executed
COACHING POINTS:
Can players recognize the opportunities to play wide
Can players recognize the opportunities to play the diagonal
Does the play of the diagonal ball out of the back free up space centrally
Can the players recognize the space to execute and punish the defensive aggressiveness
