FIFA 11 Warm-Up (20 mins)

Setup: 10x40 yard area (30 yards from first cone to last cone)

Instructions:

FIFA 11 Warm-Up

- Each exercise is ran 2x

- Jog back to the start line - use as recovery

- Try to have each pair be in sync/unison

- Next pair doesn't start until pair in front reaches first cones

1) Simple Jog down.

2) "Open the Gate": Drive knee straight up, then twist rotating out; Alternate legs.

3) "Close the Gate": Knee comes up but at a right angle to the body, then twist rotating inward; Alternate legs.

4) "Circle Partner": Pair runs to first cone, then still facing forward, side shuffle towards each other, going around one another in a tight circle, then shuffle back out to their side of the channel. Run forward to second cone and repeat.

5) "Jump with Shoulder contact": Pair runs to first cone, then still facing forward, side shuffle towards each other, and jump to bump shoulders, land softly and shuffle back out to their side of the channel. Run forward to the second cone and repeat.

6) Sprint to the second cone, decelerate to then backpedal to the first cone; sprint to the third cone, decelerate to then backpedal to the second cone, etc.

7) 75% pace sprint through the channel to opposite end.

8) "Bounding": Drive the knee up as you "jump/bound" across the channel; opposite arm should come up as your knee comes up; each "step" is a new bound (think long-jump strides).

9) "Plant & Cut": Pairs run across one another to the first cone and plant/cut to then go to cone two; zig-zag across one another through the length of the channel

Equipment:

Objective:

Hand ball game where players can not travel with the ball when its in their hand (like netball). the objective is to recieve a pass in the end zone to score a point.

Progression:

change to size 4 ball and put ball at feet. same rules apply.

Key points:

encourage movement off the ball and find a new space once you have passed. Encourage quick passing rather than holding onto the ball too long or "hollywood" passes all the time.

Area:

Use 3rd of 11v11 pitch.Split the pitch into 3rds with cones/discs or flats with 2 goals either end.

Equipment:

Goals, cones/discs/flats, bibs, balls

Objective:

Split players into 2 teams. The objective is to highlight the need for support to players receieving the ball  and having forward runners in behind. When a player recieves the ball in the middle 3rd the player on the ball is not allowed to turn and is not allowed to travel with the ball. There is a bit of leeway for movement to allow them to shield and protect the ball (approx 2m radius). To advance up the pitch they need support from a player to allow them to  set the ball back. This allows the player to then look for forward runners to play the ball. if a playeer then recieves the ball in the attacking 3rd then it s free play and no restrictions. the same goes for being in the defensive 3rd except you have to play thew ball into the middle 3rd and can not bypass it.

Key points:

Identify the need to support play who recieves the ball  as they can not travel and have to play back to goal. Identify the need to runners to advance beyond player facing the play as they are not allowed to travel to give them forward options.
