Organisation
Create a pitch 3/4 length and the width of the penalty area.
Place 3 mini goals at one end as illustrated, and two mannequins at the opposite end, just outside the penalty area.
Split players into two teams - 4 yellow (playing in a 3-1 formation) and 4 red players + GK.
Instructions
Objective is to develop transition play from defence to attack from the middle zone - drawing players out of position to create imbalance in the opposition defence - and playing a delayed final ball to exploit the space created.
Coach plays a long pass to the red defenders and the yellow team immediately press the red team.
Red team try to score in one of the mini goals.
If the yellow team win the ball they start transition from defence to attack and must get out of the shaded grid and seek to score- the red team are restricted to remaining within the shaded grid.
In the attacking zone are placed two mannequins. One red player must drive forward towards a mannequin, and team mates look to make runs behind the mannequins to exploit the space behind, for the player in possession to slide a pass into.
Coaching Points
1. The red players need to press as a unit to limit space and time and win the ball quickly.
2. In the transition to attack the passes and dribbling shoiuld be at high tempo with 1 touch combinations and finishing.
3. The rhythm and timing of the movement and passing needs to be coordinated to break effectively.
