Set up

30x25 with the mid channel 5m

2 teams with 5 neutral players as shown on the outside of the box.

Blocks: 7x3 with 1:30 break

Organization

The practice starts from the coach who serves the ball either one of the green players. Red Team aim to break the lines by playing though or around from a green to a green while using common players at the outside, while red team work on O.O.P breaking line principles,

How

I Will be working with blues on how to defend the lines, showing wide and protecting the central areas. We will be focusing on defending the play though in the first block then around then the 3 ways.. Green players are limited to two touches as well as Yellow players in the first block, Players outside of the box cannot be tackled, If Blue team regains possession they cannot use yellow players on the outside, bounce pass is allowed with greens.

Adaptations (Progressions & Regressions):

  • First block Blue team will defend low behind the half way line preventing split passes, if they win the ball they cannot use the yellow players on the outside. Red Team are allowed to play through only while they still can use the common players on outside but the ball MUST pass back to any player inside the playing area then be played through. Wide players cannot pass to each others.
  • Second Block: Blues work on quick pressure on the ball depending on how many players we have in each half vs opponents and allowed to use wide players if winning the ball back. Reds are allowed to play through and around using wide players but cannot pass straight to the target man (yellow to green).
  • Third block: Wide players can now be pressed by team O.O.P most likely the blues, if they win the ball they need to play forward and score within 7 seconds. Reds keep working on the sub principles and main principles of the session. All 3 ways are allowed through, around from green to green or yellow to yellow.

Challenges, Conditions or Targets:

  • Players are encouraged to play forward as quick as they can in the first block as the Blues will remain in their own half to start with and defending low.
  • Players on the outside are limited to 2 touches only.
  • Cannot play from a yellow to yellow
  • Scoring goals by playing from a green to a green, through=3pts, around then through using players in the inside inside=2pts, through= 1pt

Key points:

In possession:

  • Try to play through around or over the opposition, split passes.
  • Make the pitch big (width & depth)
  • Use limited touches and move the ball quickly
  • Try to play in area that allows you to see three corner
  • Look to play forward & finding space in between players
OOP:
  • Fast pressure on the ball
  • Defend narrow and protect the middle
  • Force the play wide
  • Protect the space behind
