Increasing numbers transition game (20 mins)

Set Up: Divide the group into two teams. 2 goals with GKers. Extra soccer balls at the side of each net.

Instructions: Begin with 1v1. Following that attack, it becomes 2v1 in the opposite direction. Following tha attack, it becomes 3v2 going the other way, then 4v3 and finally 5v4. Once the 5v4 stage is finished, start all over again beginning with 1v1. If the ball goes out of bounds start at the next stage immediately to try to catch the opposition off guard.

Coaching Points: Immediate physical and mental transition from attacking to defending and then from defending to attacking. Be aware of group balance for the transition. In attack: attack at speed. Movement to create space for self or for teammate(s). Be creative. Finish with appropriate technique. In defense: Pressure, cover, balance. Pressure takes one option away. Cover on the side of predictability. Balance behind the pressure player aware of the extra player, but shading to the side of predictability. Win the ball when possible.
