Social Competition against your partner |
In pairs, one either side, shown as a red and a blue.
One ball between you, Have to try to pass the ball to hit a cone in the middle. If you hit it, you win that cone, and gain a point.
If you have the most points at the end of the round, you can move up, if you lose you move down..
Progression:
You are working with your partner, if you hit your cone then you go and move it to a different pair. You are trying to get rid of all your cones.
Target:
Get the most points at the end of the round
Conditions:
If a player is finding it to easy and getting too many points over their opponent, move the cone further back so it s further away from the target. The opposite, if their finding it to hard and can’t get any then move their cone closer.
Challenge:
(After conditions, Try to use both feet, double points of you hit the cone with your weak foot.
Fly by:
Use this when the players have got into the rhythm of playing. Use this to encourage the players and giving them positive feedback, without stopping it.
Drive by:
This should be used on individual players, encouraging them to use both feet, and think about the right technique to focus on the accuracy.
Coaching process (Freeze):
The freeze method could be used to allow them to have a break, during this time you can go through the appropriate technique for passing if they are not getting it right, use a demonstration if needed. This is where you can also add any conditions or challenges that you might want to put in place. Also the right time for them to ask only questions if they have them.

triangle goal game
There is a triangle in the middle, each side is a separate goal, 1 goalkeeper is defending them all.
Then there is 2 teams, both trying to score in the same goals.
Aim is to work together as a team to try and move the ball to where there is space. Move it quickly to give your opponents less chance of being able to move round to defend.
Conditions:
Add a goalkeeper in to defend all three goals, it helps them develop with their movement. Could also create an overload on one of the teams if it is becoming too easy for one team. This will make more pressure on the winning team, to make more and faster decisions
Challenge:
can you complete a certain amount of passes before progressing to score.
Fly by:
Encourage them to pass faster, keep pushing them to keep going and not give up when they loose possession.
Drive by:
Pick players if they are not passing where they could, instead they are trying to run through everyone. Explain how important passing is in the drill, to move it around to an open goal quickly.
Coaching process (freeze):
Use this method as a break to go through any issues that may have occurred and then remind them of the technique if needed. Use this time to put in any conditions or challenges you want to. Also, time to answer any questions.

Technical Passing, which was the aim for our session. Focusing on shorter passing to feet to get the technique right. Control when the pass comes to you, this enables you to keep possession. Tackling now we are in a normally game scenarios, pressing the ball quickly. |

Tactical Lots of decisions to make for themselves, whether this is passing the ball or dribbling it forward. Pressing the ball to win back possession. |

Physical This requires all of the ABC’s. (agility, balance, coordination, speed) moving the ball quickly and dribbling around players. |

Psychological Motor learning is critical. Short and explosive activities to keep them focused, and used to initiate aerobic system. The integration from individuals, to teams. Concentration for the short period they are playing is key. |
![]() |
Social Teamwork is important, to be able to pass the ball around as effectively as they can. Communication is also important to let them know where they are. The most important thing at this is to ensure they are having fun. |
(Random) - Low repetition, High realism/decision making
Finish off with a small sided game.
See if they can put into practice what they have been learning.
Condition:
Limit touches if there is certain players finding it to easy, or if they are trying to run through everyone, when there is a better option to pass.
Challenge:
Individual players in their passing technique, or a team with how many passes they need to complete before scoring. Could also get them to make sure every team mate has touched the ball before they can score.
Fly by:
Ensure the players are moving into space, to be an option to pass to.
Drive by:
Pull a player to the side just to remind them of the technique, or to move them into space to be an option.
Coaching process (freeze):
Use this method as a break to go through any issues that may have occurred and then remind them of the technique if needed. Use this time to put in any conditions or challenges you want to. Also, time to answer any questions.
