Set Up
This warm up encourages lots of touches of the ball and focuses on very specific ball manipulation skills, which will help your players develop better agility, balance and co-ordination and become more comfortable on the ball.
7-8 mins 12 players ball each 25 x 25 area just until everyone arrives
Setup
Each player has a ball. They dribble around the area performing ball manipulation skills, turns, feints and tricks. Pick 2-3 Ball Mastery techniques and ask the players to focus on each one for 2-3 minutes. Ask your players to learn the techniques before they come to training.
What Ball Mastery Techniques Can My Players Focus On?
There are lots of Ball Mastery techniques that your players can focus on. Gates are set up in area finish with competition how many gates can you dribble through in 1 minute. see who gets through the most.
In this practice we use:
Inside Only - Your players move around using only the insides of their feet.
Toe Taps - The players touch the top of the ball with the sole of the foot.
Scissors - The players step over the top of the ball in a circle with one foot, then take the ball in the opposite direction with the other foot.
V Cuts/Pushes - The players drag the ball towards them with the sole of the foot and push it out to the same size with the same foot.
Rollover - The players roll over the ball with the sole of the foot.
Heel Toe - The players fake to pass with the heel of the foot and then bring the ball back to them with their toe and a quick movement.
Make it more challenging:
Make the area smaller
Challenge them to get as many touches as possible in 30 seconds.
