Soccer Tennis: Pressure and Cover
Set-Up: Field is 20yds x 35yds, with 5 yard central zone. Balls
located centrally off to the side with the Coach. 3 teams of 5 in
different colors.
Instructions:
The coach plays a ball in to one of the attacking team who attempt to connect 5 passes and transfer ball across to other grid to score a point. Start by having the ball played on the ground to the other team.
The defending team defends with 2 players against 5. The 3 remaining are on the side waiting to press when the ball is played to the other side.
Progression:
1. Add one screening defender in the middle channel to deny spaces and balance the two pressing defenders.
2. The screening defender can decide to stay or step into the box and help defend or balance the press whole the weak side defender drops.
3. A player from the other attacking team who are waiting to receive the ball can drop into the middle channel to receive a ball and help transition the play forward or draw a defender out of position
Coaching Points:
> Pressure - do we apply fast or slow pressure (what are the ques to think about)
> Cover - am I in a good position to deny a forward pass and defend the next obvious pass
> Balance - can I provide additional support to the players in front of me and clean up any gaps
> Communication and work together as a unit.

Organization:
C1 - In this coaching position, I will focus on the overall shape (tight team) and attitude from the striker and midfielders making sure they are screening and covering the pass to a player behind them.

Scrimmage
Coaching Points:
Where are they on the field? Close to our goals? Far away? Where do we want to win the ball?
