Key Factors:

- Switching play / In Possession

- Specific Session

- Age :14

- Number of players: 15

- Time: 30 minutes

Explanation / How

- I will be working with the RED team in possession.

- Play will start with the RED keeper who will play the ball into one of the RED defenders.

- The REDS will aim to get the ball wide into the shaded channels as quickly as possible.

- REDS must switch the ball from one channel to the next before they are allowed to score in any of the 3 mini-goals.

- The REDS will get 1  point for scoring in the channel goals and 2 points for scoring in the central goal. This will encourage the advanced midfielder or striker to receive from the wings and face a potential 1v1 situation (this is likely to happen in an 11v11 game.

- Resume from the RED keeper when the ball goes out of play.

- BLUES aim is to score into the large goal as quickly as possible following the same principles as best they can.

- REDS fullbacks are to keep wide to create space in the middle, this will create an option to switch play.

- REDS to be clever receiving the ball with opening their body and correct angle, this will enable passes to be quick and accurate as your switching play.If the ball is played too slowly this will allow the opposition as a unit to gain possession quickly.

- REDS must be patient and not rush to switch play if its not on.

- BLUES (managing opposition) are only allowed in 2 of the 3 zones at any time when defending, this creates REALISM in the session.

- BLUES will be encouraged to press the REDS,this will give the REDS  the REALISM of a proper game and will make them think about what they are doing.

- When the BLUES win possession they will be allowed to play in all 3 zones and attempt to score as quickly as possible.

Challenges,Targets & Conditions:

1.REDS to switch play 3 times before they score in the mini-goals.
2.REDS to use ALL their players when switching play.

3.REDS are given 3 points for a goal scored in the central mini-goal.

4.BLUES challenged to score within 3 passes.

5.BLUES target is to press the REDS and force  mistakes and gain possession.

Screen 2 (30 mins)

Small Sided Game (SSG) - 20 minutes

Organisation & Area Size

- 85yd x 45yd

- Wide zones are removed and mini goals are removed.Full size goal is used and red diagonal tapers to the bye lines.

- Diagonal lines/tapers are there as there are no fullbacks (BLUES) and wide wingers (REDS).

- Added a RED Keeper,RED number 9 & BLUE number 9.

- 9 v 9 (including 2 keepers)

Explanation / How

Play as a normal 9-a-side SSG,no corners allowed and roll-ins are taken (not throw-ins).

Play will start from the RED keeper who will pass out to his RED defender who will get it wide quickly. The REDS will be looking at the switch of play at all times and progress to the final third and get a shot off.

The aim for both teams is to score in the full-size goals.Working with the REDS in possession they will be looking to put into practice the way they played in the specific practice.

The wide fullbacks (REDS) are not locked into the wide shaded zones but are still encouraged to keep wide to encourage the switch of play.

It is narrow at the BLUE end of the pitch which will make it harder for the BLUE defenders to find space.BLUES will be encouraged to play the way they did in the specific session with REALISM...pressing the REDS at every opportunity and stopping them switching play as much as possible.BLUES are to stay compact and tight on the REDS to force the REDS wide.

The RED central Midfield pair will rotate to create space and constant movement in the switching play process as they progress to the final third.

The RED defenders can go wide if necessary to receive the ball from the keeper and start switching play with the defensive mid number 10 falling back into the space vacated by the central defender.

Key Points:

In Possession

- REDS need realism in theSSG.

- Movement when playing from the back.

- Speed of play to execute good switch of play

Out of Possession

- REDS need press and close down to win possession back when they lose it.

- Opposition (BLUES) also need to press and try and close down the REDS and stop them swiching play.

- RED midfielders and number 10 need to be AWARE and correct body shape ready if they get possession back.
