Sport science led warm up: 20 minutes

Technical practice #1 (15 mins)

Key Factors

  • Unopposed technical practice
  • Player encouraged to use 2 touches
  • Body shape, side on to see 3 corners of the area.
  • Detail on pass: ball speed, direction, weight and smoothness.
  • Receiving skills: body shape, angle to receive, movement away from the cone, have a picture.
  • Good first touch, where?

Organisation

  • 16 players
  • 30 x 30 yard square 
  • Players to follow their pass.
  • 2 balls working at once, increase the balls if/when the players become competent.
  • 2 x 2 minutes, with 1 minute rest. (6 minutes)

Specific Practice (20 mins)

  • Key Factors 

    • Breaking lines to play forward. 
    • Defend the grid with fluidity, maintain width & depth in-possession
    • Play through, round or over.
    • Build on technical detail from the technical practice.

    Organisation 

    • 3v3  (+2 floater and 2 end men each side)
    • 40 x 30 yards
    • 5 x 3 minutes, 90 seconds rest
    • Coach reds and blues, manage yellows
    • Directional possession, goal scored by playing into opposite end men.

  • Coaching process (if required, must dip in and out)
  • Block 1/2: Maximum 2 players per zone, at least one player must be in the attacking third. 

    Block 3/4: Wide attacking players can not score. Scoring zones must be played through.

    Block 5: 1 Wide player can step in.

Team training (25 mins)

Key Factors

  • Maintain width and depth in possession of the ball.
  • Play through, round or over.
  • Occupy all 3 zones of the area in possesison.
  • Move the ball quickly with purpose, limited touches.

Organisation

  • 4 x 5 minutes 2 minutes rest
  • full half a pitch with 10 yards into opposition half
  • CR to coach reds and manage the yellow team.
  • Red's set up in a 1-4-3 (1-4-3-3)
  • Yellow's set up in a: 2-4-2 (1-4-4-2)
  • Yellow's will be managed on 8 seconds to score when in possession of the ball.

  • Block 1: Free play, CDM to make a 4v2 with GK when playing out.

    Block 2: Yellow CF's to drop on to CDM

    Block 3/4: Yellow's to drop into a mid block.

     

     

    Problems/What if's?:
      If a team goes man to man?
    • Red team to utilise goal keeper when playing out from the back to create an overload.
    • Midfield 3 to rotate and open space up to play forward and break a line. 
    • If a team drops into a mid block.
    • Red team to occupy all three zones, front 3 to create width, CB's to create depth, move the ball quick and break lines with penetrating passes.
    Coaching position between centre of the pitch behind the Red back 2, behind the goal or side of the pitch inline with half way.
