Main Moment: Ball Possession (BP)
Key Principle: Combination Play 1. Organised Opponent
Session Objective:
In this session I aim to improve the team's ability to move the ball quickly to the wide players and be more effective at playing passes into the #9 & #10 between the lines and the opponents.
By Focusing on: Player Tasks (General/Specific)
- Can the players position themselves to receive the ball facing forward.
- The #7 & #11 to hold wide positions to stretch the defensive lines and create space in the middle of the field. Make the pitch as large as possible.
- Switch play between the #7 & #11 quickly with high ball speed, minimum passes.
- #9 & #10 to find space between the two defensive lines and present for a pass.
- #2 & #5 to push forward and look to link up with the #7 & #11 for 2v1 overlap opportunities.
Key Player Actions required to achieve the tasks and objective:
Positioning / Movement without the ball
- Body shape / angle to the ball
Core Skills
- 1v1, Striking the Ball, 1st Touch
Communication
- Coach teammates, call for passes, identify space

Organisation
14 Players in total
- 5 v 3 on the inside grid (3 v 3 plus two jokers who play for the team in possession).
- 1v1 in the wide channels.
- 2 x bouncers at top and bottom of grid.
Explanation
- Ball is played into the middle channel. Once in the middle it is played into the wide channel and then back into the middle to create a 2v1 attacking option.
- Ball is played into the bouncer at the end to score. Once a goal is scored play moves back the other way.
- If the defensive team win the ball they must play the ball back into one of the bouncers first to commence attacking.
- No direct passes from wide channels to bouncers or from bouncer to bouncer.
Team Task:
Try and move the ball as quickly as possible from one bouncer to the other using the wide channels and an overload in attacking areas.
Player Tasks/Actions:
- Look to move the ball into a wide channel quickly.
- Create a 2v1 situation in the middle channel
- First touch with open body to allow options of passing
Cues (To assist Perception, Decision, Execution):
- First touch with open body to allow options of passing
- Scan for passing options before the ball arrives at feet
- High ball speed
