Set Up:

  • 3/4 Pitch - Goal on the 18 yard line
  • 22 Players
  • RED Coached set up in a 352
  • BLUE Opposition set up in a 352

Session Explained:

BLUE are aiming to build from the back, play through the lines and looking to advance over the white line to score in the goal. Only the RED CBs can defend behind the white line, once that line has been broken by the BLUE they have 10 seconds to score in the RED goal.

RED aiming to win the ball back and score in the BLUE goal.

Blocks:

2 min Framing

3x6 min (2min rest between)

 Block 1

BLUE PROBLEMS:

  • Blue have a 4v2 overload at the top of the pitch, meaning easy possession when they build up the play - meaning RED may have to drop off.

RED SOLUTIONS:
  • Set a trap by one of the CF starting wide to prevent the ball going to CB - and other striker starting centrally - allowing ball to be played out to one side
  • Ball side striker then presses from in to out - aiming to keep play one way
  • Second striker closes in towards GK and middle CB to stop any attempted switch of play
  • Ball side wing back starts to lock onto opposition wingback
  • Near side CB can mark tight/in front - middle CB is around and deeper to cover in behind
  • Ball side CM slides across, as does far side CM, and Far side Wing back narrows up inside the pitch to close spaces and get near to threaten opposition CM

Block 2

BLUE PROBLEM

  • Blue wingbacks go deeper and CF play much wider, they have also pushed on a CM to play as a 10/False 9 - stretching ourour Back 3 - creating big spaces in front of our back 3 and behind ourmidfield and wingback line - potentially allowing easy passes into CF feet to hold up ball

RED SOLUTION:

  • Same strategy with the CF setting the trap and pressing this time the ball side CM has to shuffle over to screen the pass into theCF feet.
  • The Wide CB can't go in front - because themiddle CB can't cover in behind due to the gaps in the pitch being sobig
Second CM comes across - and far side WB narrows up tomark far side CM

we must keep play down this side of the pitch

Block 3

BLUE PROBLEM

I will let the Blue team decide which problem they decide to do mixing them both up to make it a more realistic to a match day and also give them the option to go longer over my CB.

RED SOLUTION:

Will see how the reds react to the problems being live and if they can see the different problems when they happen.

If the play over the RCB, the CB needs to be close enough to cover around and also the GK need to have his starting position correct which would be on the edge of the 18yard line. With this happening the CM would need to drop back into the cover the CB if he goes wider and the 2 advanced CM would need to drop deeper into the space left by the CM. The WB the opposite side would need to recover and communicate with the LCB who would need to go deeper and more central to cover the CB. The nearest WB and CB would need to turn to help support the CB. When all players are making their recovery runs they would all need to be aware of the other attacking players moving forward and pick up where required. And make themselves free to receive the ball when we regain possession.
