Improve progression, penetration with first time passes that break lines. Extend practice into scoring via first-time shots.

See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
Objectives:
Build sound passing and receiving mechanics
Get players physically ready for intense exercise
Set up :
12 metre square x 2 (as per set up)
Min 5 players per group (1 on each corner, 2 on starting corner)
2 balls (min) per group
(If more than 5 players, add an extra player to a corner with one player)
Action:
P1 plays to P2 and moves toward P2's cone to receive a wall pass
P2 plays a wall pass back to P1
P1 receives and passes to P3 and moves to Cone 2
Meanwhile P2 and moves away from Cone 2 to anticipate a pass from P3
P2 receives from P3 and plays to P4
And so on
Adaptations (Progressions & Regressions):
P1: firmer passes
P2: 1 touch
P3: 2 balls (start at opposite corners) - note: needs 6 players
R1: make square smaller
R2: always take 2 touches
Challenges, Conditions or Targets:
One touch
Competition: 2 groups compete against the clock against the clock
Coaching points:
Passing mechanics (see below)
Receiving (control) mechanics (see below)
Move off cone to simulate reality
Scan and move off cone
Passing mechanics
Receiving (control) mechanics

See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
Objectives:
Stretch passing and receiving mechanics in a more dynamic environment
Get into space to receive
Work on body shape to either:
a) lay off first time to a team mate to who can play forward, or
b) play a first time penetrating forward pass
Set up:
24 x 24 metre square
5 players per team (if more than 5, add an extra player on the end line)
Action:
Players to pass ball from one end to the other
2 teams playing in a perpendicular direction. In this example:
When ball reaches player at the end line, he enters square and the player who passed to him takes up his space on end line.
First rep:
Red team plays - blue team stands still; then blue plays while red stands still.
Quickly progress to P1 below.
Progressions and regressions:
P1: Both teams play at the same time
R1: One team plays
Challenges
A series of one touch passes (as shown). Coach players to move and get body shape right in order to receive and play a first time forward pass.
Teams to complete against one another - first team to 6 repetitions (one end to other end = 1 rep)
Coaching points:Passing mechanics (see warm-up)
Receiving (control) mechanics (see warm-up)

Move to receive
Body shape to play forward or lay off
Decisions: play forward, play back, turn

See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
Objectives:
As per 'technical' part but this time a fully competitive game:
Improve passing and receiving mechanics
Work on body shape to either:
a) lay off first time to a team mate to who can play forward, or
b) play a first time penetrating forward pass
Get into space to do either or the above
Set up:24 x 24 metre square
5 players per team : 3 players in centre and 1 on each end (if more than 5, add an extra player on the end)
Time: 20 mins.
Action:
Teams to combine with one another to play end to end. In this example:
1 point every time pass is completed to play at the end.
When ball reaches player at the player at end line, he enters square and the player who passed to him takes up his space on end line.
If red in possession, blues to win ball back so that they can combine and play end to end
Get one player per team to count reps.
Play 2 - 3 mins on, 1 min off. Observe players physical state: should be working at 60% - 80% of RPE; not so hard that tiredness causes quality to drop off. Try to limit interventions to breaks between reps.
Progression and regression:
P1: two touch only;
P2: one touch only.
R: Reduce to 2 v 2 in centre and put the extra man on one of the ends.
Coaching points:
- passing and receiving mechanics (as earlier) but layer on
- body shape (to receive to play forward)
- get space
- scan to know what is around you
- decisions (play forward; pay backward; turn; first time passes v take a touch)

See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
Objectives:
Create opportunities to score using penetration principles (as covered earlier in the session)
Score using first time shots (making use of same penetration principles covered earlier in the session)
Set up:24 x 36 metres
Add goal posts at either end
Remove centre cones
6 players per team : 5 + 1 GK
Action:
Normal game play w no offside
Restrictions:
Scoring zone is the final third (12 metres as marked by cones)
First touch to score
Progression and regression:
P1: two touch only;
P2: one touch only.
R: Reduce number of players centre and put the extra man on one the attacking end zone either side of goal to play a wall pass back to a team mate to enable a first time shot. Change this player regularly.
Coaching points:
As earlier, i.e.
- passing and receiving mechanics (as earlier)
- scan to know what is around you
- get space
- body shape (to receive to play forward, or lay off to a team mate who can play forward)
- decisions (play forward; pay backward; turn; first time passes v take a touch)
Plus...scoring:
How to use penetration to create opportunities to score with a first time shot. E.g.
- one player to stay high with back to goal and play a wall pass to an advancing team mate (as shown by red)
- fast breaks in wide areas to goal line and cut back to advancing team mate (as shown by blue above)
Time / delay entry to scoring zone to receive pass and score w first time shot
Enter final third at speed to avoid being marked.
Depending on players engagement reduce restrictions to play a normal game.
