A practice to encourage players to think about their body position when receiving and passing the ball.

Topic: Passing & Receiving
Set-Up:-
Two areas measuring 10m x 10m
Two groups of 7 players. Each group has 6 outside players and one player in the middle.
Play starts from one of the outside players who makes a pass to the middle player.
Before the player makes the pass, they must call out the name of one of other outside players.
The middle player then must adjust his body position to enable him to receive the pass and then make the pass on to the named player.
The receiving outside player then calls another name and play continues.
After 2 minutes change the middle player
Duration: 15mins
Coaching Points:-
1. Open body position when receiving
2. 1st touch to enable ball to be moved on efficiently
3. Scanning to know the position of outside players
4. Keep tempo high to work middle player
Progressions
1. Encourage middle player to use weaker foot when making pass whenever possible
2. Outside players can move along their line to change the angle of their passing lane

Topic: Passing & Receiving
Set-Up:-
Two red coned areas measuring 10m x 10m
One ball per group with extra available to keep the practice running
A 5v2 rondo
The players now grouped into two teams (reds & yellows in this case).
Each team choose two players to act as defenders within the other team's rondo
The outside players (plus the middle player) must keep possession
The aim is to get the ball to the middle player and back out to score 1 point
Bounce passes are allowed
The teams compete to get the most points
Play lasts two minutes and then the defenders and middle players are swapped
Coaching Points
Middle player to move into space to make themselves available for the pass
Outside players should move the ball quickly to move the defenders into a position for the scoring pass to be made
Outside players can move along their line to make themselves available to receive a pass
Progressions/Regressions
1. Bounce passes are not allowed (i.e. the ball must be moved on to a different outside player than who passed it to score)
2. Players cannot move along their line

Topic: Passing & Receiving
Set-Up:-
A 7v7 SSG
Four mini goals set up as shown in the diagram
Two zones marked out with cones
Instructions:-
Each team has one player constrained to the zone just in front of the goals they are attacking
These players cannot be tackled but must play on a maximum of 2 touches
All other players can move freely in the grid and can score at any time for a point
Goals scored by player in the zones are worth 2 points
All goals assisted by the players in the zones are worth three points
Coaching Points:-
1. Scanning to assess options
2. Body position based on which option is taken
3. Can teammates make runs to support the player in the zone who has limited touches to make pass
Progressions:-
1. Players in zones are restricted to playing one touch
2. Defenders can enter the zones to challenge
Regression:-
1. Increase size of area the target player e.g. they are free to roam anywhere in the final 3rd
