Play Phase

Play Phase

Players play small sided game with the condition that in order to score the player that shoots must be in the 'end zone'.  As soon as a shot is attempted, the counter attack can be triggered.  Player must run around the cone behind the goal.  Whilst this is happening the team that was just defending gets a ball and starts a 3v2 counter attack.  There are no offsides.

Coaching Points

  • Allow players to make mistakes going forward however do not allowthe same mistakes to get repeated or allow either team to become predictable
  • encourage: combination play, slashing runs, overlaps or by individual skills.  Encourage different ways of scoring.
  • Make sure defensively players track the goal scorer as the closer they are to the goal the quicker they can then start there counter attack.

Counter attacking Technical Phase

Play begins out wide with a pass back into the CM.  As soon as this happens both defenders run around their cone and look to get compact into the middle.  The two attacking wingers look to run around their cone and then make positive movement to support an attack.  Meanwhile the CM and ST shall complete a one two, when the ball is back to the CM they can choose who to play.  4v2.  If the defenders win it they counter to the small goals.

Coaching Points

  • The movement of the supporting players is crucial, if they are slow to get there then we can not provide enough attacking options.
  • Decision making of the player on the ball is also crucial, the decision to pass or dribble.
Progressions
  • Give the team who is counter attacking 10 seconds to score.
  • Start the ball at the opposite side.
  • Make it a 4v3.

Conditioned Game

Conditioned Game

Blues play a 7v5 (Including GK) team in possession look to maintain the ball and score by passing or dribbling through the red gates.  Reds look to win the ball and counter attack in either of the goal.  Game lasts for 3 minutes before switching roles.

Coaching points

  • Every player must move and support the press and then the counter attack to make it realistic
  • Challenge the player on the ball to find a player in space for the counter attack vs the dribble
  • The counter attacking team must look to break into space as quick as possible for the counter to be effective.
Progressions
  • Increase the field size so the team who is counter attacking has more distance to cover
  • Increase the team in possession to a 8v4 depending on success.
