Unopposed Wide Triangle Patterns (15 mins)

Method:

  • Finishing practice with the idea of creating a triangle out wide + the combinations that can be played through the triangles.
  • Three pairs of mannequins - inside the 6-yard box x2, just outside 6-yard box x2, outside the 18-yard box x2.
  • Players set up in the final third of the pitch as shown.
  • Play starts with the deepest midfielder who plays the ball into the feet of the #9. The ball is then worked wide through the shown combination.
  • Two touch max.

Coaching Points:

  • Use different types of crosses to work the ball into the area depending on where the cross is coming from.
  • Crossing player encouraged to make the decision on whether to pick a player out or play into space.
  • ensure that when the full-back makes their run forward that another drops deeper to provide security
  • Players should focus on placing shots into the corner of the goal. Accuracy over power.
  • Body shape when finishing - body over the ball.
