This session is designed to give players an idea about both sides of the game, when we as a team have the ball, and when we are without the ball too. Can we expand and open the attack when we transition to having the ball, and can we also be a team that organizes quickly and stops any counter attack from the opposition and prevent the other teams from creating or finishing the attack.

See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
Setup:
See above, we have a 3 vs 3 in each half, with the shaded area used for extra balls and for the current defending teams trying to win the ball back and dribbling over into the grey zone marked out in the middle of the field. Teams in possession to start have to try and get the ball into the small goals on the defensive side of their area.
Instructions:
We are working on quick transitions from attack to defense and the same other way around so these are some of the key elements and notes for players to remember during this practice:
Quick attacking play
Organized defensive transition
Players keeping + holding their position when out of possession
Players being dynamic and direct in possession

See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
Setup:
Play a 4 vs 4 +3
Blue starts inside the area, with 1 player from the team of 3 players in black
Red team are positioned on the outside of the square, 2 on each one of the left and right hand sides - a black player on each one of the ends of the square
The goal and objectives are simple -
1. Blue tries to steal possession and go 2 vs 1 against the outside players in black, scoring in one of the 2 small goals, either end is fine
2. Red + black team needs to connect 7 passes in a row in order to count a goal for themselves.
3. Always 2 blues leave the square and attack the defender in black making it a quick transition to 2 vs 1.

Setup:
Play a simple winner stays on to finish out the practice.
Hopefully look for quick change overs between games and make sure the players keep the intensity and tempo high.
We can progress to having the outside team be wall players and assist in helping the team in possession score.

Transition Game - 3 vs 2 (15 mins)
Setup:
Red plays into his partner. already in the field of play, the red team try to turn and attack the isolated defender as fast as possible before the 2 recovering blue players can steal the ball and try to transition into a 3 vs 2 in their advantage going into the 1 goal. Red + blue teams can rotate and change over after 4/5 mins. of play.
Instructions:
Look for fast recovery sprinting from the 2 outside blues, getting back into an organized back 3 as quick as possible, containing and delaying the attack before picking the right moment to go and win the ball, in order to transition quickly to a 3 vs 2 in their favor. The red have to attack at pace as they have limited time for the 2 vs 1 to work in their favor, so there needs to be a purpose and drive in their 2 attackers in the field. Guide the starting blue defender to delay and deny the 2 attackers space, time and the opportunity to shoot or go to goal.
Progression:
Coaches can play around with the numbers advantage for one team or the other, they can also add a neutral players if needed to encourage and promote good quick and effective transitions from defense to attack as fast and as efficient as possible.
