Box to Box Switching Play - Technical
Group split into 2, working in 2 x 15x15 areas - approx 18 yards apart
- Players look to combine within the area with lots of passing and moving
- On the coaches shout of switch they must switch the ball from one area to the other avoiding the balls making contact
- think about types of pass; side foot/laces/lofted/weaker foot
Progression 1
- on the coaches shout of switch, a pivot must leave their area to enter the middle of the pitch, receive from their box on the back foot and flick into the opposite box before returning.
- Think about communication
- Receiving on an angle
- Scanning (previous session learning objective) before you receive
Progression 2
- Two players now leave the box, one receives on an angle and bounces into the second player who switches the ball to opposite box
- Think about space and staying out the way of the opposite team there will be 4 players in the central area now
Progression 3 - The double switch
players now repeat the process of progression 2 but the ball must be switched back again using the same two pivot players - talk about why a double switch may be used
- Communication will be key here
