SETUP
The practice begins when the coach calls out two colours. The two players must sprint to the coloured poles corresponding to the coach’s call. Once the players complete the sprint, they will then compete in a 1v1 situation in the central area. The coach does not give preference to either player, so the ball will be passed into the middle, and the player who completes the SAQ part (sprinting to the poles) the quickest will get to the ball first. The players can score into either of the mini goals, adding variety and challenge to the 1v1 situation.
PROGRESSION
Add More Goals
Introduce additional mini goals or cones to encourage more creativity in the 1v1 phase, requiring the attacking player to choose which goal to attack, creating more decision-making opportunities.
Focus:
Improves decision-making under pressure and encourages attacking players to be more versatile.
PROGRESSION
Add a Defending Restriction
Limit the defender’s actions (e.g., no tackles or only allow them to block or jockey), forcing the attacker to focus on finishing or creating space in other ways, such as taking a shot or passing.
Focus:
Helps attackers work on finishing under less pressure, allowing them to refine their shooting and placement.
COACHES NOTES
• Explosive Speed – Focus on the explosive acceleration required when sprinting to the poles. Players should concentrate on pushing off quickly and efficiently to gain the advantage in the 1v1 phase. Encourage quick starts and fast direction changes during the sprint phase.
• 1v1 Decision Making – When engaging in the 1v1, players should work on quick decision-making: whether to take on the defender with a dribble, use a skill move, or take an early shot on goal. Encourage players to read the defender's body positioning and attack or shield the ball accordingly.
• Finishing Under Pressure – The 1v1 scenario should include pressure situations where players are forced to make quick decisions under pressure. Whether the defender is closing down space or the player is in a tight angle, focus on finishing quickly and efficiently to get a shot off.
• Recovery and Resilience – After the 1v1 phase, players must quickly recover and transition to be ready for the next round. Encourage them to maintain their intensity and remain focused after completing each phase of the practice, emphasizing the importance of mental and physical resilience throughout.

SETUP
Two goals and a goalkeeper are positioned to the north and west, creating a square-shaped field. Play starts with a 1v1 attacking situation, where the attacker’s objective is to beat the defender and score into the main goal. The defender’s job is to deny the attacking player a clear path to goal, working to win the ball back before the attacker can get a shot off. If the defender regains possession, they immediately switch roles and attempt to score into the mini-goal.
After every phase, the roles switch, and the attacker transitions to defend against a new opponent from the opposite team. This encourages players to quickly adapt from attacking to defending, maintaining high intensity throughout the drill and improving both offensive and defensive decision-making.
PROGRESSION
Add Time Limit on Attack:
Introduce a time limit for each attacking phase (e.g., 20 seconds). If the attacker does not score within the time frame, the defender is awarded possession, and they attempt to score in the mini-goal.
Focus: This progression adds urgency to the attacking play, forcing attackers to make quicker decisions and defenders to remain alert under pressure.
Coaches Notes
Attacking Focus: The attacker should focus on quick, direct movements to get past the defender and create a goal-scoring opportunity. Use fakes, changes of direction, and pace to beat the defender.
• Defending Focus: The defender should stay compact and control the attacker’s space by positioning themselves between the attacker and the goal. Focus on timing the tackle or interception to win the ball cleanly.
• Transition Speed: When the attacker transitions to defense, they must do so quickly and with purpose. Transitioning between attacking and defending without hesitation keeps the drill dynamic and helps improve fitness and decision-making.
• Mini Goal Awareness: If the defender wins possession, they should look to immediately transition to attack and finish in the mini-goal, using their newfound possession to take advantage of the open space.

1v1 through Gates Example (10 mins)
1v1 via 2 gates
Yellow dribbles via a gate and passes to Blue who attacks the yellow so he/she can get through either gate.
Once successful he/she then passes the ball to the next Yellow player who then attacks the blue to get through the gate
