Explanation
Players start in opposite corners of the pitch. The coach calls out a number 2,3 or 4 and the attacking team (Red) send this many players on whilst the defending team send 1 less. The Reds receive a ball their GK and try to score in the oppositions goal. They can only do this once they have crossed the halfway line.
If the defending team win the ball they can counter on the Red goal and try to score.
When a goal is scored or the ball goes out the 2 teams return to their corners and the coach will start again by calling out a number.
The attacking team are also encouraged to:
-Make overlapping & under lapping runs
-Be creative when attacking and finsihing
-Transition quickly from attack to defense if they loose the ball and then follow the defensive principles of:
i Press quickly
ii Protect the central areas
iii Leave the furthest player
With this session the coach has the ability to progress or regress depending on the level of success and learning being achieved.
Conditions
Can place a central line down the middle of the pitch to encourage more players to always be on the ball side of the pitch.
Can also place another line either side of the central one if the are attacking in straight lines. You can instruct that 2 of the furthest lanes away from the ball are to left empty.
Challenges
Can put a time limit on attacking team to get a shot away
Can add a defender to make a recovery run from the Red goal to even up the numbers. This will also encourage speed of play and to use the overload that they have before the recovering defender gets back
Can add off side if needed
