Players seek to receive a pass and then beat a player opposite angles left and right (not behind left or behind right). Coaching focus on first and second touch and the reaction of the defender as the picture is always changing. Distance and timing applies to both defender and attacker.
Step-up: possibly coach hop shape inside drag and outstep but again the picture is always changing. Again how do you adapt and distance and timing.
Key cues for a successful first touch
Perception - Decision making - Execution (don’t be afraid to make mistakes that’s how you learn)
Be proactive not reactive
1. Scan - Where is the defender?
2. Perception - Where do you want to take your touch based on where the defender is and choose to
be brave or secure possession
3. Away from danger in a tight spot is to secure and into space forward is called a positive first touch.
Staying on the balls of your feet and this allows for a reactive response.
4. Where the defender is determines what you do!
5. Lock your ankle but soften the ball to push, some may trust a surface and use a Futsal roll with
studs
6. Hip rotated allowing to help with cushioning the ball.
7. See space explode
8. The picture will always change so be adaptable
