Player Expectations

1. Attitude is everything - what do you want to get out of it? Have fun

2. Your brain is the most important tool to assist in your development. Ask questions and if you think

of them later bring them next week

3. Water bottles together for quick accessibility

What are your goals as a player in the next year? 3 years?

• Eg play NPL or for the Olyroos

Session Details

Key terms:

Brave v Secure: we want to produce attacking and positive players How? Get the details right of

scanning, body shape

Disguise: body feints or body movements to create space (see hop shape)

Adaptability: can you adapt to the changing pictures in the game? Where is the defender?

Skill Introductions

Players seek to receive a pass and then beat a player opposite angles left and right (not behind left or behind right). Coaching focus on first and second touch and the reaction of the defender as the picture is always changing. Distance and timing applies to both defender and attacker.

Step-up: possibly coach hop shape inside drag and outstep but again the picture is always changing. Again how do you adapt and distance and timing.

Key cues for a successful first touch

Perception - Decision making - Execution (don’t be afraid to make mistakes that’s how you learn)

Be proactive not reactive

1. Scan - Where is the defender?

2. Perception - Where do you want to take your touch based on where the defender is and choose to

be brave or secure possession

3. Away from danger in a tight spot is to secure and into space forward is called a positive first touch.

Staying on the balls of your feet and this allows for a reactive response.

4. Where the defender is determines what you do!

5. Lock your ankle but soften the ball to push, some may trust a surface and use a Futsal roll with

studs

6. Hip rotated allowing to help with cushioning the ball.

7. See space explode

8. The picture will always change so be adaptable

Skill training

Juggling within this section to have a drinks break and quell the intensity.

Instructions:

  • Start with one player one defender passing to an attacker who can be joined by another attacker and both attempt to score in the goal opposite them (start with one defender and other defender is able to defend goals with ball coming from the other side, they can wait off to the side). Defenders can win the ball and score in goal they originally face.
  • Begin to introduce feint/touch around cone
  • Add in defender on the cone that players have to drive past.

Coaching Points:

  • KISS principle Keep it Simple Silly 1. Beat player via feint, beat player via fake and skill move, beat player by a pass (ensure there is a change in speed either as a player or the ball. Ensure distance and timing is re-iterated.
  • Ensure their is width (outside and level) and if it's tight teach a crossover, then crossover fake

Progressions/Regressions:

  • 2v2 raids and see how they solve situations now that there is less space

Coaches might jump in and lift the intensity of the session and see how players solve things and communicate in a 3v2 or 3v3 situation.
