Football/Soccer Session (Beginner): Setting Walls

Genral Free Kick Defense

Zone 1: This is for free kicks taken form 0-30 yards out. The keeper is to set a wall depending on the

location of the ball.

In Zone 1, tallest player is the second player from the edge. GK will line up that player on the post nearest the ball.

rest of the team (not including the fwd) is man marked on (one defender may be standing on the near post)

Zone 2: This is for free kicks taken from 35-45 yards out. The keeper should have 2 players front the

ball and the defense should hold their line at the top of the 18 yard box.

Zone 3: This is for free kicks taken from 45-60 yards out. The keeper should have 1 player front the

ball and the defense should hold their line at the top of the "D" (arc at the top of 18 yard box).

Zone 4: This is for free kicks taken 35-45 yards out, to the right or left side of the 18 yard box. The

keeper should have 1 person front the ball and the defense should hold the line at the top of

the 18 yard box.

Zone 5: This is for free kicks taken 45-60 yards out, to the right or left side of the 18 yard box. The

keeper should have no one front the ball and the defense should hold their line at the top of

the "D" (arc at the top of the 18 yard box).

Setting up for corners.

• Wing closet to the side the kick is being taken is on the goalie
• Opposite wing is far for any trash (or a specific long corner)
• Both midfielders make their runs. 9 trails behind and wait to receive the ball
• Ball is played all the way long to the opposite wing who heads it back to the middle where the 9 is waiting
• the outside back on the side of the corner comes up to play shorts.
• either the 6 or next best scorer will be set ip about 5-10 yrds from the top of the "d" and looking to play any ball that comes out.
