Attacking Shape to penetrate vs 4-3-3

The purpose of the session is to understand the positional roles and attacking principles.

Main focus will be on the off ball movement to positioning to create space and runs to attack the space created.
Coaching points will include positioning, combination plays, 3rd man runs and the timing of runs off the ball.

Practice Objectives:

Passing practice to build combinations in central areas.

Practice Explanation:

Play starts with a pass in to the supporting player (1) to play a wall pass inside (2). Playing first time pass forward (3) they make a forward run on opposite side (4) . The receiver plays through ball to the wide player (5) who sets back with the end receiver to start the pattern again in the opposite direction (6)

Set up:

  • Grid with mid zone
    • 6v6 + 2 or 4v4 + 2
  • Goals with GKs or End Zones (6yds)

Instructions:

  • Zonal Possession
    • Attacking - Keep possession to play forward to team in opposite half. 
      Score by playing it to a team mate in finishing zone (Orange) once ball has switched halves.
      Team scores keeps possession.
    • Defending (BLUE) - Deny progression/penetration. 
      Win possession and play to team in opposite half to score as above  
    • 4* (3'30R) - 15min

Progression:

  • Player can enter middle zone to play forward for Maximum 3 seconds but must play forward
  • Player can play a 1-2 with teammate from opposite half to create an overload to score
  • Add goals instead of end zone
