Technical (15 mins)

Instructions


Set up - Players arranged in a 2-1-2 formation, 

Pattern with focus on variety of ways to build out

Coaching points:

1. Weight of pass

2. Angle of pass (communicate through your pass)

3. Receiving off back foot / Playing outside the line of your body

4. Movement off the ball

Wave Game (20 mins)

Instructions

  • 3 teams of 7 create a Build vs Press scenario
  • Attacking team start from a Goal Kick, trying to play into an inverted goal
  • Defending team presses to win and score 
  • Attacking group - play for 3 mins
  • Progression 1: If attacking team concede their rep is over
  • 6 x 3 min (45 sec rest)

Coaching Points

1. Recognize the forward pass

2. Keep composed and move opponent by moving the ball to create a forward pass

3. Full backs recognize when to play central 

4. 8 is released to play higher between lines

5. Counter press quickly to win the ball back or deny the opposition scoring

6. Attacking balance - Opposite attacking team, be in a position to be able to receive a pass or support the ball recovery

Counter Points

1. Press quickly

2. Communicate and make the play predictable

3. Recognize the moment to win the ball

4. Disrupt first and then counter attack

Phase of Play (30 mins)

Instructions

  • 11vs 10 Phase 
  • Attacking team start from a Goal Kick, trying to play into an inverted goal or into regular goal. Shots must be taken in the red box
  • Defending team presses to win and score 
  • Progression 1: If attacking team concede their rep is over
  • 2 x 9 min (1min 30 sec rest)

Coaching Points

1. Recognize the forward pass
