Warmup, dynamic movements and passing (20 mins)

Organization:

All players with a ball in 50x40 field as shown (Fig 1). Three cones in the middle forming a triangle 15x15x15. Big goal at one end (both if possible). Coach along sidelines.

Instructions:

All players have a ball and dribble according to coaches command. Review homework, show coach new moves/juggling techniques practiced at home during the week. Start with 1 minute to impress coach with any skill. Winner after that minute gets a bib. Then another minute, winner of that skill gets a bib, etc. All the winners from the warmup games will play on the same team in the later activities.

Coaching Points:

* Eyes up soccer so the players know what is around them

* Players are always moving

* Every step is a touch

* Thinking about every touch as our first touch (even if it isn't)

* Execution and technical points of different moves of the players

Progressions:

P1: Once coach has half the players in bibs, the players now switch into teams. Bibs with bibs and non bibs with non bibs. One ball per team. Players must pass and then keep moving. Team with the most completed passes without a mistake wins the round. Keep track of the points for all rounds. Winning team gets the ball first in the next activities.

P2: Teams must pass two balls in the same space (no pressure other than other team's score)

P3: Teams must now break the middle white line in the grid in order to complete a pass (every pass must cross line)

P4: Players must now pass and sprint in the opposite direction after pass

P5: Multiple balls per group

Possession to score (20 mins)

Organization:

One big goal at the end of the field as shown. Field is 50x40. One triangle of red cones that is 15x15x15. All players in grid, half in bibs half without. All balls with coach. Goalkeeper with gloves in the triangle.

Instructions:

Balls are served in from coach. Winning team from warmup starts with the ball. The goalkeeper is nuetral and can only stay inside the triangle. No other players are allowed in triangle. Keeper can only use his hands. (if additional keepers, add another nuetral in bigger space and have them rotate). Players play 6 passes (without losing control) to score a point. First team to three points wins.

Coaching Points:

* Move while ball is moving

* Player on the ball always has min of 2 options (sides) and ideally 3 (downtown option).

* Eyes up early to know where pass is

* Playing into space for players to run onto the ball

* Use of overlapping runs/body to protect the ball from defenders

* Use of goalkeeper's distribution to keep possession

Progressions:

P1: Teams can now score a point by either 6 passes or a split through the triangle. Goalkeeper leaves the triangle and is a nuetral player but can only use his feet. Passes do NOT have to connect on the split, but encourage players to try to keep the ball after the split! (Heads up passing!)

P2: Players can score three points if they are able to connect 6 passes and find a split pass during the same run

R1: Players only need to make 5 (or fewer) passes to score

R2: Increase the size of the triangle to force players to stay spread out

Goalkeeper Triangle of Death (30 mins)

Organization:

As above. Field is 40x50. One 15x15x15 triangle in the middle of the grid. Goalkeeper in the triangle. All the other players split into two teams in the area. Goalkeeper is the only one allowed into the triangle. All balls are fed from coach.

Instructions:

Players can score one point by connecting 6 passes with their team or by shooting through the triangle and beating the keeper for 3 points. Goalkeepers attempt to save all shots, and all sides of triangle are the goal. First team to 15 points wins. Play 3 rounds, winning team gets to start with the ball during the conditioned game.

Coaching Points:

* Eyes up: is shot on? if not, pass

* Reading the goalkeeper in order to score and keep possession

* If under pressure and can't go forward? (cue to pass)

* Open space to goal? cue to shoot

* Communication between teammates to know what is around them

* Where are the defenders? Play to the space that they are not in! (Play out of pressure)

* Correct body shape and use of body to protect the ball

* Clever play to beat defenders and the goalkeeper

Progressions:

P1: Multiple balls in the grid, teams must delegate during play who is covering what and the goalkeeper must keep head on a swivel

Conditioned Game (20 mins)

Organization:

As above. Field is 40x50. Two bumper players for each team on endlines (on attacking end) for each team. Goalkeeper in the big goal, two pugg goals on the other end. All balls with coach on the sideline.

Instructions:

Players play soccer after recieving a ball from coach. Ball always is from coach if scored or goes out of play. Coach can vary the service from on the floor, to in the air, etc to challenge players and keeper. Players can only score if they connect with a bumper player. If they lose the ball, the must connect with a bumper player again before trying to score. Team with the most goals wins.

Coaching Points:

* Eyes up early (can we play bumper/target players early

* Use of target players to create combination passing (give and go, overlap, etc)

* Movement off the ball to create space for teammates

* If we cannot go through, can we go around or over?

* If we cannot play bumper player, keep the ball and recycle it

Progressions:

P1: Free play
