Passing: 1st touch
(from Ian Richard's: Curriculum, Tier 2, Passing)
Organization:
10 x 15 yard area with 3 x 3 yard area either end, set up as shown
Players work individually
One ball per pair
Instructions:
1. Players must look to pass the ball into their partner’s area for a point
2. Their partner must attempt to control the ball without leaving their area. If the receiver can control the ball inside the box with 1 touch, they also receive a point
Coaching Points:
Direction of pass
Angle of approach
Head up to observe target
Placement of non-kicking foot
Heel down, toe up
Quick touch off the ball (when receiving) depending on the space
Progressions:
(P1) - If the ball is sent out of the box the receiver can still earn a point if he/she take their 1st touch into the box
(P2) - Add in movement; Players must backpedal around cone behind them and enter the box when the ball is passed
(R1) – Reduce distance

Screen 3
Organization:
3 teams of 4 in different color pinnies (or 3 equal teams)
Red team starts with the balls in the center circle
Blue team forms a circle around the outside
Yellow team defends first
Instructions:
1. Red players dribble around the inside of the circle looking for an open blue player to pass to.
2. One yellow player will be following one red player as a shadow (passive defender)
3. Red player plays the ball into an open blue player. Red player immediately moves off the ball to present a good passing lane for the blue player and opens his/her body to face the center circle in preparation to receive and find a new blue player.
4. Yellow player (defender) follows the pass to the blue player. Once the blue player returns the ball to the red player, yellow continues moves off blue and continues to shadow the red player.
5. Each team goes for 2 minutes and then switches roles
6. After each team has gone, incorporate (P1)
Coaching Points:
Body shape/position: Get in line with the ball as it travels
Choose the appropriate surface of the foot. --> Introduce front and back foot in this activity
Head up before receiving to observe open space
Contact with middle of the ball; heel down - toe up
Movement off the ball
Decision making from all teams: When to dribble/pass?
Progressions / Regressions:
(P1) - Allow the defender to choose whether he/she wants to defend the receiver or passer after the ball has been played into one of the outside players. = Affect decision to pass or dribble. If yellow defender follows the ball to the blue player, using diagram, the blue player should pass the pass to the red player. But if the yellow defender marks the red player the blue player should dribble and take the space.
(P2) - Allow the defenders to steal the ball
(R1) - following P2; Defenders cannot win the ball
(R2) - Take away the defenders. Add more players on the outside and just pass and move

Organization:
20 x 15
Every player with a ball
Instructions:
1. In the 20 x 15 grid allow the players to dribble around using Messi / Ronaldo touches.
2. (Coach) Reviews Messi / Ronaldo touches and turns we've learned in the last few sessions using the inside, outside and sole of our foot.
3. Allow the players to practice.
Coaching Points:
1. Keep you head up - Look out for other players who may bump into you. Look for open space and cut away from others with the outside surface of your foot.
2. Recognize when to use Messi vs. Ronaldo touches while performing the move. (Before/After?)
3. Maintain a low center of gravity
4.Touch after recognizing there's space - needs to be explosive but controlled into space away from players reach.
Progressions:
(P1) - 5 lives; Each players has 5 lives to start of with, if they dribble out of bounds or by accidentally bumps into another player he/she loses a life. If a player gets down to zero lives left he/she must see a coach for a technical challenge that will give them an additional 5 lives. After 2 minutes see who many lives each player has left.
