Part 1

Teams split into 3 teams of 5 with 2 attacking joker players. 2 attacking teams in both wide boxes. Defensive team starts on the middle line. Ball will be played to one side by the coach and the practice begins. The defensive team should look to put pressure on the ball and prevent passes going through them.

Attacking team score a goal everytime they get the ball across to the other side or if the full backs can hit a diagonal pass into the opposite diagonal goal.

No more than 2 players can ever go and press the ball to begin with so while two go the other 3 defensive players should remain disciplined and block the passing lines. This can be chnaged if the joker player receives the ball behind the first line of pressure because on game day we would need someone to jump out and put pressure on the ball.

If defensive team win the ball they can play into any of the mini goals to score. If defensive team win the ball then the two joker players should look to counter press immediately and win the ball back.

Only conditions are that you can switch the ball into the other box over head height and the wide players cannot play down the line to each other. They must find creative solutions.

Part 2

In here two teams start in a defensive zone with a target zone behind them that is empty. In the middle zone we have midfielders and we have two attacking players in each defensive zone.

The practice starts with the midfielders combining on the ball in the middle zone. At any moment any player can dribble the ball to a defensive team or pass to a defender in the defensive zone. The defensive player who receievs it should then look to either clip the ball over the defenders and get the ball to bounce in the opposition defenders target zone or hit the feet of the opposite centre forward. To score a point the ball either needs to land in the target box or the opposition striker needs to receive the ball and bounce it off to a supporting midfielder who would then make a run into the box.

There are also two poles down either side of the pitch. At any moment the coach can shout a colour. Which ever colour he calles the defensive lines must run across to that colour and put themselves in an appropriate defensive position.

Part 3

8 v 9 Defensive Practice.

3/4 of a pitch.

Defensive team look to restrict playing forward opportunties while the attacking team look to break them down. If defensive team win the ball they should look to break forward and get over line before looking to score in the mini goals.

Cones are also placed within the pitch as well with balls on top. If a coach calls a colour then the players must react to the colour called and play live from there. The original ball should be kicked out immediately by whoever was in possession. This should really open up transitions and encourage players to work harder.

To start with attackers are the only players who can take the ball off the cone.
